Time for another Hall of Names installment. This is a good Hot Stove activity... and something quick for me to post from work. :)

This time we're going for famous names from the visual arts (drawing, painting, sculpture, even photography, but not architecture) - last names of famous artists only please! Please tell us the naqme of the artist you're thinking of, because not everyone here (including me) is an art buff. I will start us off with just two entries...

OF Tuck Turner, a onetime phenom who hit .416 in 1894. (Painter J.M.W. Turner)

P Ollie Klee, a cup of coffee man in 1925. (Painter Paul Klee)

A little Canadian content:

OF "Shoeless" Joe Jackson, lifetime .356 hitter (Group of Seven painter A.Y. Jackson)

P John Thomson, FA and potential Blue Jay (Group of Seven painter Tom Thomson)

P Rob MacDonald, 1987 Blue Jays draftee (Group of Seven painter J.E.H. MacDonald)

Mgr. Bucky Harris, Hall of Famer (Group of Seven painter Lawren Harris)

Just wondering, is Mike Colangelo eligible?

Limiting myself, by the way, to artists I've ever heard of, rather than just Googling, e.g., "painters American famous".

There was a ballplayer named Bosch, after this one.

Close enough... Bobby del Greco and El Greco

Willie Everett Smith got a cup of coffee with the Cards in '94, while W. Eugene Smith was an acclaimed photojournalist.

Scott, if you're looking for baseball Smiths, you could take Ozzie or Reggie and do pretty well.

If only there had once been a major leaguer named Sarnoff. Then I would be able to honour Arthur Sarnoff, the creator of this materpiece.

The closest match I could think of was Roy Lichtenstein and Chuck Hartenstein. Yeah, it's early in the morning. :-)

In a comic book vein, how about Stan Lee (Spider Man, Hulk, etc) and Bill "Spaceman" Lee.

Stan Lee was only a writer, not an artist. You could do Jim Lee (X-Men, Batman), though. (thought about it, decided it was too easy)

Some other possibilities: Emily Carr- Chuck Carr; Diego Rivera-Luis Rivera. For Coach's Group of Seven artists, Reggie Jackson and Bobby Thomson ("the shot heard round the world") are also possibles.

Cy "Young" Twombly, also.

Snellville, Francisco Clemente's "Map of What is Effortless" title did put me in mind of Roberto's throwing arm. Cheers.
