A repost of what I mentioned earlier. If you can make it, you really ought to come!

On September 27th, 2003, Will Carroll visited with about 50 or so of us a diehard seamheads. We had pizza, we had beverages, we saw Roy Halladay win his 22nd game, and everyone other than Jody Gerut and Brandon Phillips had a terrific time.

Now Mr. Carroll is coming back to Toronto!

As part of the Baseball Prospectus Book Tour, he'll be at the Indigo bookstore starting at 6:30 PM at 2300 Yonge St., just north of Eglinton (click here for a map). There will be free pizza, a lot of baseball talk, and you can meet Will and a bunch of other, less famous, baseball bloggers. Will's quite an intelligent guy and a fascinating fellow to chat with. Last year's Pizza Feed is my best Jays memory of 2003, so I highly encourage people to come on out and have some fun!

What time is this at?
_Moffatt - Friday, May 07 2004 @ 01:23 PM EDT (#66444) #
Ooops.. it's since be announced that it'll be starting at 6:30. I'll change the intro. Thanks!

Too bad the Jays aren't playing that day...

Anyone want to have beers afterwards?

The Duke of Kent is a decent pub right across the street.

I'd be up for that. How long do these things go on for, usually? I wouldn't be able to get there until around 7:30.
_Moffatt - Friday, May 07 2004 @ 02:07 PM EDT (#66447) #
Since it's a book signing, I'm not quite sure, you'll have to ask Mr. Carroll. I'm sure it will go on well past 7:30. In the previous thread he did mention he'd be interested in holding a "Beer Club" meeting aftewards.

I probably won't be able to make it to Toronto due to work committments. It's a shame, because I'm sure this is going to be a ton of fun.

How much is the book?
I don't want to go to a book signing and hang out with the author if I'm not goin' to buy his book :)

The timing and location couldn't be better; UFA plays West Toronto at Eglinton Park at 3:30, so I can walk to the bookstore immediately after our game. I'm really looking forward to it -- we all had a fantastic time at the September Pizza Feed, and this is sure to be great fun.

Expect Will's audience to thin out abruptly at 8:00 when the Jays game comes on and the Beer Club meeting convenes -- someone should make a reservation at the Duke if there are going to be dozens of us.

I presume they'll be sellign the Prospectus there for those of us who haven't picked it up yet?
Craig B - Friday, May 07 2004 @ 04:25 PM EDT (#66451) #
Well, Coach, hopefully I'll have time to show up at Eglinton Park to watch the last of your game with West Toronto...
Coach - Friday, May 07 2004 @ 04:39 PM EDT (#66452) #
That would be great, Craig. It will probably be over by 5:30, but we'd be glad to see you. We're 1-1 now; yesterday we played our neighbours, Western Tech (the two schools share the same building) all the way out at Riverdale Park. They took a 5-0 lead, we battled back to tie it up, then they scored three in the sixth to win it.

No manager would ever make excuses, but our 2-hitter was playing at SkyDome with his all-star team, and our 4-hitter was sick and missed the game. I'm proud of the guys who played; at one point we had three Grade 9's on the field. If there's a rematch in the playoffs, I promise it will be a different game.

If we already have a copy of the book and want to bring it to get signed, is that cool?
_R Billie - Friday, May 07 2004 @ 06:59 PM EDT (#66454) #
Is there parking in that area? Or a subway station?
Coach - Friday, May 07 2004 @ 07:08 PM EDT (#66455) #
The bookstore is directly above Eglinton station. Street parking is hard to find in that area, but the garage on Holly St. (a block east of Yonge) is reasonably priced in the evening.
_Matthew E - Friday, May 07 2004 @ 10:29 PM EDT (#66456) #
And Holly St., of course, has its own baseball significance.

I won't be able to make it. My new job has an awkward commute and, currently, a lot of overtime associated with it. Plus I have a family that I think I should check in with every day or so.

Ahh, high school baseball. Its sort of like CIAU Hockey. :-)

Still good though. My sister goes to UFA, and I think I might have seen you guys playing at some point. I might know a couple people on your team if they ever played for Trinity. Good stuff.
_Will Carroll - Saturday, May 08 2004 @ 03:29 PM EDT (#66458) #
Hope to see all of you and more. Indigo is very excited about this and so is BP.

Anyone want to be a pal and pick me up at the airport? I'd love to check in and get over to see Coach, well, coach!
_Will Carroll - Saturday, May 08 2004 @ 03:30 PM EDT (#66459) #
Oops - forgot to add that not only will BP books be available, I should also have copies of my book, "Saving The Pitcher" available there. It's also available from Amazon and all the normal assets ... shameless, I know :)

For those of us unable to attend, how was it?
Craig B - Wednesday, May 12 2004 @ 11:27 AM EDT (#66461) #
There was excellent discussion and tasty pizza. I didn't attend Beer Club afterward, can someone fill us in?
_S.K. - Wednesday, May 12 2004 @ 12:38 PM EDT (#66462) #
Can't speak for everyone there, but I personally had a great time. (I was the one at the end in the blue hat, since I don't recall actually telling anyone my handle). Chatting on the web is fine, but there's nothing quite like relaxing and watching a ballgame with knowledgable people and some beverages.
Would have been nicer if the Jays had won, of course, but we had a chance to debate the merits of smallball, hear about Will's interview with Tracy Ringolsby, and laugh at the (attractive) mess that is Tara Reid.
Named For Hank - Wednesday, May 12 2004 @ 01:00 PM EDT (#66463) #
Did he knock off Ringolsby's hat?
_S.K. - Wednesday, May 12 2004 @ 01:15 PM EDT (#66464) #
I believe the interview was over the phone, so I'm guessing probably not.
