Jesse Litsch was the top performer yesterday as he threw 7 hitless innings.

Syracuse 6 @ Indy 4

Ty Taubenheim got the start for the Chiefs and pitched quite effectively. He went 7 innings giving up 2 runs on 4 hits and two walks. He struck out 6.

A quintet of players had two hits each: Lydon, Olmedo, (notorious) JFG, Mottola, and Duncan.

New Hampshire 3 @ Bowie 1

Jesse Litsch is off to a strong start this year. Yesterday, he improved upon that throwing no-hit ball over 7 innings, walking just one and striking out 9. Jesse Carlson came on in the 8th to continue the no-hitter. He got a ground out and then hit a batter which prompted a change to Tracey Thorpe. Thorpe got a fly ball and strikeout to end the inning.

In the 9th Thorpe struck out the leadoff man, walked the next hitter, and struck out the following batter. With two outs Thorpe gave up a run scoring double to lose the no-hitter and the shutout.

Second baseman Juan Peralta got half of NH's 6 hits on the night.

Litsch gave up 3 runs in his first start of the season. Since then given up just 1 run in 32.2 innings. And he only faced Connecticut once!

Dunedin 5 @ Palm Beach 3

Brandon Magee picked up his first W of the year pitching 7 innings and giving up 3 runs. He struck out 1, walked 3 and gave up 7 hits.

Kyle Phillips had 3 hits for the D-Jays. Cota, Hetherington, and Jeroloman each had two hits.

Quad City 5 @ Lansing 7

Graham Godfrey got his first action of the year and pitched well considering that. In 6 innings he gave up 2 runs - both on solo shots. He struck out 3, walked none and gave up 6 hits.

Lansing had 8 singles on the night. Travis Snider was the only nut with 2 hits.

3 Stars!
3 - Kyle Phillips
2 - Ty Taubenheim
1 - Jesse Litsch

Apparently, life does go on.

Never seen Litsch pitch, but he seems to me to be in the Janssen, Bush mold. Graham Godfrey is a man to watch. BA is high(ish) on him. A 34th rounder we paid $200,000 for. If you've seen his picture he looks like a pitcher. Ryan Patterson, another guy to keep an eye on.

Does anyone have a scouting report on Litsch?

I've never seen him pitch.  He seems to be doing extremely well for a 24th round pick.

Here is what BA has to say....

The aggressive Litsch is unafraid of contact. He has no knockout pitch, but he commands an 88-92 mph four-seam fastball with enough natural cutting action to put hitters away. He also throws a two-seamer, curveball, slider and changeup. He's able to throw his curveball for strikes and get hitters to chase it out of the zone. The Blue Jays can't say enough about his makeup.

Well, assuming the bonus above is correct he was paid like a 4th/5th rounder.  But he'd be doing well for a 4th/5th round pick too.

Pistol, actually the $200,000 was for Graham Godfrey, not Litsch.

I've tried to find what Litsch signed for but can't (so far). He was a 24th round "draft and follow" who was 6' 1" 175 when signed - according to the Fisher Cat site he is now 215. He was born on 3/9/1985.

Wouldn't this be the second 2004 draftee of JP's to throw a no hitter this month?

Zach Jackson and Jesse Litsch?

So apparently my reading skills rank right up there with my writing skills today.
