The BBFL has it's complete haul of owners for the year.  The trading window is open in the Alomar and Barfield divisions and will open in the Carter division this weekend as soon as we hear from one more owner and can complete roster assignments.  Feel free to use this this thread for trade/keeper discussions.

BBFL owners please get your keepers in promptly or I will pick them for you - this is not something you want.

Want to join us?   The waiting list for next year - or for any last minute drop outs this year - is empty, so if you'd like to join it please drop me a line at bbfl at gwynprice.com

I've probably asked this before - how much work is it to 1) join one of these/prepare for the season and 2) maintain it on a weekly basis?

So far, I've only played fantasy football. I end up spending 1-2 hours a week usually on that.. Sometimes more.

If I can't dedicate an hour a day, am I going to be cannon fodder for everyone else, and take away the fun of it for others?
(just had a baby, so now I have two kids, and spare time is less than ever..)

Unable to stand pat in Alomar after finishing first in the regular season, only to be roundly. trounced in the playoffs, Schroedinger's Bat has been endangering pop servers with email messages seeking trades.  The frenetic activity has already resulted in two deals and left the Bat chuckling gleefully in the face of uncertainty.

Trade 1: The Unruhlies send Carlos Beltran to Schroedinger's Bat for Dustin Pedroia and Rich Harden.

Trade 2: Schroedinger's Bat receives Chase Utley from Baseball North for Ryan Braun.

We're not done yet. There are many players left to deal, all worthy of your interest:

Mike Aviles   --- was he a fluke? Get your gamble on and find out for yourself
Alex Gordon    --- will this be the year he shows us what he do?
Troy Tulowitzki --- Healthy, young, fast, and still plays in Coors.
Andre Ethier  ---- The kid can hit, can he help you?
Elijah Dukes  ---- His off-field problems don't scare me. I'll keep this monster if no one shows interest.
Brad Hawpe ---  OBP, SLG, RBI. What more do you want?
Stephen Drew  --- I'm predicting that this is his year (see end of Dukes note).
Travis Hafner  --- Another chance to get your gamble on.
Cliff Lee  --- He won't fall off his first name.
A.J. Burnett  --- Brand new stadium to gather wins and Ks.
Mariano Rivera  --- Mo has plenty mo' left in the tank.
Brian Fuentes  --- Saves, saves, saves, and fine peripherals, too.

Come and get 'em while you can. I'm open to trading some of these guys in two-for-ones, or three-for-ones, if anyone is looking for depth and has a stud to deal.

Even though Jimmy Rollins isn't on the team, the Harlem Harlots would like to declare themselves the team to beat in Carter division, featuring a keeper list of Brian McCann, Matt Holliday, Carl Crawford, David Ortiz and Francisco Rodriguez.
92-93 - Saturday, February 28 2009 @ 03:39 PM EST (#196905) #
It's unreal how bad the team I inherited is. I think I have to keep Aaron Hill, James Loney, Alex Gordon, Xavier Nady, and Lastings Milledge. After seeing some of the other 5 keepers teams have (Dave above included), I concede.

I'm also in Carter, looking to trade any or all f my potential keepers.  I have to move Doc, and would be open to moving any of the other talent on the team, such as:  Pujols, Teixera, Vdub, David Price, Utely, Vlad, Snider, or Joba.  Drop me an email.

Jdog - Saturday, February 28 2009 @ 04:29 PM EST (#196907) #
David Rutt you realize its not 2006 anymore right. Your keepers were the team to beat in 2006.
lexomatic - Saturday, February 28 2009 @ 04:37 PM EST (#196908) #
i'm confused (and new) if you trade someone who you can't protect... does the other person get to protect them(restarting the 3 year process)?
92-93 - Saturday, February 28 2009 @ 04:38 PM EST (#196909) #
Johan Santana has been traded for Roy Halladay.
Dave Rutt - Saturday, February 28 2009 @ 04:43 PM EST (#196910) #
Not to worry, 92-93; I inherited a pretty bad team last year, and admittedly was in the basement from day 1 until the last week of the season, but managed to turn my assets into a pretty good set of keepers.

And Jdog, I'm not claiming to have unequivocally the best keepers in the league - there probably isn't any first-round talent in there - but the Phillies also weren't a clear favourite when Rollins made his statement. So Carlos Beltran up, cause it's on!

Carter Division, FYI

lexomatic - Saturday, February 28 2009 @ 04:48 PM EST (#196912) #
Hi Guys

Mainly for the new owners - I've had a few questions about keepers.

Once a player is traded to a new team his three year 'clock' resets. So if you trade for a player who is listed 'Cannot Be Frozen' on another team, he starts a new three years of eligibility for your team.
e.g.
Tools Of Ignorance cannot freeze Carlos Beltran.
92-93 cannot freeze Joe Mauer.
The two teams owners agree a trade of Beltran for Mauer.
Beltran is now a first year player for 92-93 and can be frozen
Mauer is now a first year player for Tools Of Ignorance and can be frozen.
Hope that explains things.

I forgot to mention please email me any trade confirmations and announce them for the other owners on battersbox or the yahoo league page.

question about keepers and the draft... do you HAVE to keep 5 players?
if you dont' want to keep 5 players can you just start ranking your players after the ones you're keeping or do you have to rank 5 keepers and start ranking any other available players at #6?
Gwyn - Sunday, March 01 2009 @ 03:30 PM EST (#196939) #
Yes you have to keep 5 players

FearFranchise - Sunday, March 01 2009 @ 09:37 PM EST (#196952) #

It could be worse...you could have inherited the team I was awarded!  I'm scrambling to find 3 legit keepers compared to the other rosters! (at least I have the first pick in the draft!)

With that being said, I have three 'frozen' players I'm obviously willing to part with:  Smoltz, Pettite, and Abreu.  If anyone in the CARTER division wants to take a flyer on any of these players as a 5th keeper i'll gladly swamp frozen players with you.  Feel free to email me at stevie_franchise AT hotmail DOT com.

Carter Division Trade

In a deal involving Must-Trades, the Tools of Ignorance send Tigers Ace Justin Verlander to the Ottawa Windchill for the Angels new starting left-fielder Bobby Abreu.

The Tools have taken care of their Must-Trade contracts, but are still receptive to any trade-talk before the draft...

Hi folks, in the Carter league I could be persuaded to part with Johnathon Papelbon in the right deal.  He was unanimously named #1 fantasy closer by all the experts in the Yahoo pre-season rankings.  I have him for two more years so I'm in no particular hurry to move him but for the right impact starter and/or hitter I would consider trading him.
