Spring is almost here, which means it’s not only time for a new Blue Jay season, but it’s also time for another Toronto Bauxite Baseball League season. This year will mark TBBL’s fourth season and I am pleased to bring you this message from league organizer Mike K. As a former (and hopefully future) TBBL participant I can thoroughly vouch for the league and the work done by the various individuals behind the scenes, as I’m sure many other Bauxites can.

Hello Again Bauxites,

Three years ago a couple of Batter’s Box members created the Toronto Bauxite Baseball League, a Men's baseball league in Toronto's west side. This year we are looking to expand again. If anyone is interested in playing some hardball, drop me a line at whitesox_1978@hotmail.com. The season runs from May 9th - August 31st. Commitment to show up to the majority of the games is a must. Skill levels vary in the league and we welcome anyone to sign up.

Quick Details:

Park: Smythe Park (Scarlet/Eglinton area)

Cost: Approximately $200 for 5 exhibition games, 9 regular season games and a minimum of 2 playoff matches.

Games played: On Saturdays between 1pm-7pm.

Website: www.torontobauxitebaseballleague.com

Cheers!

Mike

Thanks for posting this Thomas. I hope we get a fresh new crop of bauxites this year!

I've always wanted to play, but I have this thesis to write this year. I wish I didn't stop playing baseball in the Queensway league when I was, oh, around 13 or so. Mimico Tennis Club was good though, with its clay courts and low entry fee.

I'd really like to do this, but I need to first make sure I have a job and a place in Toronto after I graduate. Whats the deadline for signups?

First off, our website has changed. We will post the URl in the coming days.

As for the deadline, I'd like to know ASAP so we can determine if we will go with 4 teams or 6 teams. However, you can wait until the last week of April and still possibly have a spot.

I have received this question a couple of times now. Skill level doesn't matter - we are a competitive, yet at the same time, a recreational league. Age is also not an issue. We have several guys at or near 40 years of age.

Given I played in it a couple years ago, it can't be needing that much skill :)

No chance of me playing this year.  With 3 new girls in the family (adopted them - moving in on Saturday - consider adopting or fostering children through Children's Aid, it is well worth it) free time no longer exists.

Wow, an 857 OBP?  Who knew?  Guess standing still and taking pitches works well for me.

Congratulations, John, on the children.  OK, and the OBP too!

Thanks Mike.  All I need are another 6 so we can add an all-girl team to the TBBL :)
