They will have to invite him to the homerun derby this time.

So after last years efforts, who among us saw the race of the Brandons to All-Star recognition being won by League over Morrow ?  ... NNNoooBody ?

Nothing like the blinding glitter of 21 shiney saves.

Rivera has been DFA'd, and Snider has been called up.  Sportsnet.

Eh...the vaguries of getting to the ASG, particularly for pitchers, making any sort of projection on that score a mugs game anyway.

As for Snider/Rivera - insert homer Simpson with a WOOHOOO! here...

Romero could still get named to the team after they make the pitching replacements. Don't know how Sabathia isn't on the team, though.

AL Starters:
C: Alex Avila  - good.
1B: Adrian Gonzalez -Good.
2B: Robinson Cano - Good.
SS: Derek Jeter - HA!
3B: Alex Rodriguez - Reasonable
OF: Jose Bautista - obvious
OF: Curtis Granderson  - obvious
OF: Josh Hamilton - didn't play enough but understandable
DH: David Ortiz- makes sense

AL Reserves:
C: Russell Martin - players did this, stupid. Santana.
C: Matt Wieters - if you must have 3 catchers, and players already have Martin then Santana here. Was the O's only rep but you can fix that at shortstop.
1B: Miguel Cabrera - sensible
2B: Howie Kendrick - correct
SS: Asdrubal Cabrera - Hardy.to get the O's a selection instead of Weiters, still snubs Peralta.
3B: Adrian Beltre - Longoria, IMO, but at least it's not Youk
OF: Michael Cuddyer - only Twin?
OF: Matt Joyce
OF: Jacoby Ellsbury  - Beosch?
OF: Carlos Quentin
DH: Michael Young -HA! Homerism. V-Mart here.
SP: Josh Beckett
SP: Gio Gonzalez
SP: James Shields
SP: David Price - take Longoria above and you can get Humbar or Romero here
SP: Justin Verlander
SP: Jered Weaver
SP: C.J. Wilson - more homerism - Pineda here.
SP: Felix Hernandez
RP: Brandon League
RP: Aaron Crow - gotta do this to get a Royal in
RP: Jose Valverde
RP: Chris Perez - Farnsworth?
RP: Mariano Rivera

Could make a good case for David Robertson except for the way too many Yankees already present.

AL Final Vote Candidates: Victor Martinez (C/DH, DET), Paul Konerko (1B, CWS), Adam Jones (OF, BAL), Alex Gordon (OF, KC), Ben Zobrist (UT, TB)

How in the heck is it that Jones and Zobrist are here and Peralta isn't? Beosch isn't?

Heck Lind and YEsco are better candidates.

I'll go with Konerko to win it though.

On the whole, Washington went homer on three spots where he should have done better, and Tigers fans have most to be upset about, IMO.

If you thought Washington was a homer, Bruce Bochy took three San Francisco pitchers (Cain, Lincecum and Vogelsong) with his four picks (Carlos Beltran was the other, I believe).

I wonder if any all-star will actually boycott the game. Last year, Jose Valverde said he would.

I'm really surprised that C.C. Sabathia and Dan Haren weren't selected.  To me, Weaver, Haren, Sabathia, Hernandez, Price, Shields, and Verlander is a pretty clear top 7 when it comes to A.L. starting pitchers this season.  Wilson, Beckett, and Gonzalez are all also right up there, but I think that Haren and Sabathia have both been better than those 3 guys.

Looking at Blue Jays pitchers, Romero has been great, but I'm not surprised that he didn't make the allstar team this season.  Based on his peripherals and overall numbers, he's more in the 15 to 20 range for me, and I think we can expect that type of performance for him in the future.  To me, Romero is more of a borderline ace / elite #2 guy.

To me, our true ace talent, if he ever puts things together, is Brandon Morrow.  His xFIP is amazing, and ranks him 7th in the AL after Felix Hernandez, mainly due to how Morrow misses a lot of bats and racks up the Ks.  Unfortunately, when the ball does go into play against Morrow lately, things have gone really badly.  His .333 BABIP this season is close to the worst number in baseball, and he was even worse last season, with a .342. BABIP.  Perhaps he's due for a good luck turnaround; Beckett went from .338 last season to .216 this season.  If something like that happens with Morrow, then that would really help our chances of putting together a magic season in 2012.
