Buffalo and Lansing were the winners on Saturday. Buffalo were led by Andy LaRoche who had 4 hits and a home run. Kevin Pillar also had four hits but in a losing cause for New Hampshire. Deck McGuire was either bad or showed promise depending on your perspective. Alonzo Gonzalez pitched six shutout innings for Lansing whose offense was spread around. Aaron Sanchez pitched mostly well for Dunedin, four three up, three down innings and one three run inning.

Buffalo 9 Rochester 2

Buffalo led 6-0 after 4 and cruised to the win. Andy LaRoche got it going with a 2 run HR in the third and he finished with 4 hits. Six hitters had multiple hit games including Moises Sierra who was 2-5. Anthony Gose was 1-4 with a walk.

Claudio Vargas started, he put on 8 hitters in four innings but only gave up one run.

Reading 10 New Hampshire 3

Deck McGuire started 2013 where he left off in 2012. In 4.2 innings he gave up 7 hits and 3 walks. On the positive side he did have 7 K's.

The offense was led by Kevin Pillar and Kenny Wilson who had six of the nine hits. Pillar was 4-5, Wilson 2-5 including a double. Ryan Schimpf hit a three run home run.

Clearwater 7 Dunedin 3

Aaron Sanchez started and was perfect through three innings, 7 grounders, one line-out and one K. But in the fourth a single, walk, double, infield single and a ground out led to three runs. Sanchez came back out for the fifth and had a 1-2-3 inning. His final line was 5 IP, 3H, 1BB, 4K. Shawn Griffith gave up three runs in the eighth to take the loss.

Dunedin scored all their runs in the second with the big hits a a triple by Oliver Dominguez and a double by Jon Jones. Both of those hitters had two hits as well as Jon Berti.

Lansing 8 Lake County 1

The first five hitters of the game had a hit and the Lugnuts jumped out to a 4-0 lead. They padded that lead to 8-0 after five innings and cruised from there. The Lugnuts had 13 hits and 16 K's. Five hitters had two hits, Gustavo Pierre, Balbino Fuenmayor, Chris Hawkins, Seth Connor and Carlos Ramirez.

Alonzo Gonzalez pitched six shutout innings, six hits, two walks, and six K's. Griffin Murphy pitched and gave up an unearned run on two hits.

Javier Avendano has been a nice story so far, so I'm looking forward to the start of  minor league Rule V  selection Efrain Nieves for Dunedin today  - can the scouting staff do it again?

Roberto Osuna has pitched five innings today and has 8 K's. He has given up one run on what Jesse Goldberg-Strassler called a freak inside the park home run.
