The affiliates were 4-1 tonight. While rain thwarted a Drew Hutchison and Kyle Drabek tandem pitching performance down in Dunedin, it stayed away from Buffalo, New Hampshire, Vancouver, Lansing, and our DSL affiliate. Only Lansing wished it too had swamped them out. Brett Lawrie played second and struck out four times. Gabe Jacobo marked his first game this season up with New Hampshire with a homerun and a double. Some solid starting pitching across the board, but as has become common in these parts—the lack of prospects has meant a lack of big time performances and tonight was one of those nights.
Buffalo 4 Lehigh Valley 1
Buffalo scored three runs in the top of the tenth to win today. These runs came off two bases loaded walks and a wild pitch. Kevin Pillar led off the tenth with a base hit and was then sacrificed over by Ryan Goins. Brett Lawrie followed with a walk and after Eugenio Velez advanced the runners on a groundout, Andy LaRoche was intentionally walked. Jim Negrych played hero and walked in the go ahead run. Negrych’s walk was followed by another to Mike McCoy and then a wild pitch with Anthony Gose at the plate plated another. Gose then ended the inning with a lineout. These late inning “heroics” perhaps overshadowed six strong innings from starting pitcher Thad Weber. Joel Carreno also held the fort down with two scoreless innings. Carreno picked up the win. Brett Lawrie playing second base again struck out four times, but turned a double play. Kevin Pillar had the standard two hits.
New Hampshire 5 Reading 1
New Hampshire got to Reading starter and top Phillies prospect Jesse Biddle today. They touched him for two runs in the first and two runs in the fourth. Just promoted Gabe Jacobo had three hits, one of which was a homerun. Andy Burns doubled in five trips to the plate and A.J. Jimenez was hitless, but managed a walk. Fisher Cats starter Ryan Tepera allowed a leadoff homerun, but shut the door thereafter going six strong innings.

Rain got this one. Disappointing as Drew Hutchison and Kyle Drabek were supposed to pitch.

Peoria 10 Lansing 3
Peoria scored seven runs in the eighth to put this one away. Faulty defense and wild pitching were the root causes of anguish tonight as errors by Kevin Patterson and Wil Browning allowed for additional base runners, while Browning’s back-to-back-to-back walks didn’t help either. Dwight Smith Jr. had three hits at the plate and Emilio Guerrero homered.
Boise 0 Vancouver 4
Matt Dermody and Scott Silverstein combined to shutout the visiting Cubs affiliate late tonight. Dermody pitched five innings, allowed three hits and struck out three. Silverstein worked the last four innings, allowed three hits and also struck out three. The Canadians faced Canadian and recent second round draft pick Rob Zastryzny. He, however, had vacated the mound when the Canadians did all of their damage. The four runs came in the bottom of the third. Runs were scored by hit by pitch, wild pitch, single, and groundout.

Rained out as well.
DSL Tigers 3 DSL Blue Jays 6
Our DSL Blue Jays won today. Pint sized Rodrigo Orozco playing his third professional game went 3-4, homering and doubling. Richard Urena had a hit and two walks, and Ronniel Demorizi had two hits, a walk, and an RBI.
