Pillar Hits the Skids, Unearned Runs Kill

Buffalo played a doubleheader and Kevin Pillar was hitless in both games. In total he was 0-5. The Bisons lost both ends. Joining them in the losers club were Lansing, thanks to six errors, Vancouver, who also had a key error, and the GCL Jays. JA Happ started for the GCL Jays and he made his own error leading to unearned runs against him. New Hampshire won as Deck McGuire had a decent start. Bluefield had just four hits but scored six runs and won. Adonys Cardona pitched well. Dunedin were rained out again.

Scranton 2  Buffalo 1 - game 1

Chien-Ming Wang pitched six strong innings. He made one mistake, a 2 run home run by Dan Johnson. Overall Wang allowed five hits in six innings. Chris Bootcheck pitcheed a complete game, 7 innings for Scranton. A solo home run from Sean Ochinko was the Bisons only run.

John Stilson pitched one inning, he gave up one hit. The Bisons had just four hits. Kevin Pillar was 0-2, Anthony Gose 1-3.

 Scranton 5 Buffalo 0 - game 2

Dave Bush was hit around the park nine hits in 4.1 innings to be exact. He was charged with 4 runs. Jeremy Jeffress pitched an inning for the first time in a long time.

The Bisons had just five hits, one better than game one. All 5 were singles, Mike McCoy had two of them.

 

New Hampshire 6  Reading 3

Deck McGuire pitched six innings and got the win. He had one bad inning, the second when all three runs scored. In that inning he allowed three hits including a home run, walked one and hit a batter. The Fisher Cats had scored three runs in the top of the second, Tommy Manzella doubled in 2 runs and Adam Loewen then singled him home.

The game remained tied at 3 until the seventh when Gabe Jacobo hit a solo home run. Jack Murphy added a home run in the eighth an the sixth run scored on an error in the ninth. Murphy and Manzella led the hitters with two hits each. McGuire's line was 6 5 3 3 3 8.

 

Dunedin at St Lucie - postponed

 

Burlington 11  Lansing 5

The Bees had 12 hits but Lansing added one six errors for good measure. Daniel Norris was the best pitcher for Lansing. He pitched four innings and was charged with two unearned runs. He gave up four hits but had 5 K's and no walks. Efrain Nieves gave up 4 runs, one earned and Alonzo Gonzlaez pitched in relief, he gave up 3 runs, one earned. Only 4 of Burlington's 11 runs were earned.

Dwight Smith hit a solo home run. Dalton Pompey and Christian Lopes had two hits each.

 

Boise 5 Vancouver 4

Vancouver trailed 5-0 heading to the bottom of the ninth. The first five hitters in the bottom of the ninth reached, four on hits. The score was 5-3 with no-one out and two on base. A ground out made it 5-4 but the next two hitters struck out.

Jeremy Gabryszwski was pitching a shutout into the fifth inning. But a lead-off walk, followed by a Dickie Thon error set up Boise to score two unearned runs. They added three more in the sixth and seventh off Bobby Brosnahan.

Jordan Leyland had two hits with 2 RBI's. Nico Taylor also had two hits.

Bluefield 6  Pulaski 1

The Jays had just four hits but scored six runs. They also had three walks. So how did the Jays score so many runs? Part of the reason is bad choices by Pulaski. In the fourth inning the Jays scored four runs and they had a walk and a one single. They had two men reach on fielders choices. Both scored. Matt Dean added a two run home run in the sixth. Dean had two hits.

The Jays used three pitchers who each pitched three innings and each allowed two hits. The three were Adonys Cardona, Mark Biggs and Brady Dragmire. Cardona led the way with five strikeouts.

 

GCL Blue Jays 8 GCL Yankees 9

The Jays led 6-2, trailed 8-6, tied the game at 8, but lost through a run in the bottom of the eighth. The Jays used 6 pitchers. JA Happ started and went 3 innings. Happ was charged with two runs, both unearned due to his throwing error. The error was followed with two ground ball singles. Happ did not record a strikeout. Oscar Cabrera took the loss by allowing the run in the eighth.

The Jays had 8 hits with of them doubles. Andres DeAza had two hits, both doubles. Those two hits pushed his average over 300. The three other hitters who have BA's over 300 each had one hit, they are Franklin Barreto, Andres Sotillo and Tom Collins.
