There were lots of stand-out performances on the farm on Saturday.
Franking Barreto hit a two run, walk off single for Bluefield. That was one of his two hits.
Rolando Segovia hit a walk off 3 run home run for the GCL Jays.
Ricky Romero pitched well, Moises Sierra hit a 3 run home run in the Bisons win.
Andy Burns and Kenny Wilson each had three hits and Marcus Stroman got the win for New Hampshire.
Vancouver won behind a strong start for Jeremy Gabryszwski.
Dunedin and Lansing lost. Matt Boyd pitched well in his Dunedin debut. Emilio Guerrero had two hits to add to his 6 from Friday.
Buffalo 7 Pawtucket 2
Ricky Romero had a good start for the Bisons. Pawtucket had a couple of hits in the first and a couple more, with a hit batter, in the second leading to a run. Over the next five innings Romero gave up a couple of singles, both broken bats per Ben Wagner the Bisons radio guy. Seven innings, one run is obviously very good but Romero's challenge has been to put a string of these good starts together. John Stilson pitched the last two innings and gave up an unearned run.
The Bisons bunched their 12 hits. The number 9, 1 and 2 hitters were 0-15. The 2 through 8 hitters were 12-25 with 5 walks. Moises Sierra was 2-5 including a 3 run home run. Sierra has been hitting better recently, it will be interesting to see if he gets a September call-up. New Bison, Brad Glenn, was 2-3 with 2 walks. Andy LaRoche had the same stats. Jim Negrych had 3 hits, Ricardo Nanita 2.
Trenton 4 New Hampshire 14
Just like the Bisons the Fisher Cats bunched their hits. The first four hitters were 10-20. Kenny Wilson and Andy Burns each had 3 hits with one double. Kevin Nolan had 2 doubles and Adam Loewen had two hits with one double. Burns OPS for August is now over 900.
Marcus Stroman started. In 5.2 innings he was charged with 4 runs on 6 hits. Two of the runs were unearned when Burns made a two out error with the bases loaded.
Dunedin 0 Clearwater 2
Clearwater had just 4 hits and 2 runs. Two of the hits came in the second inning and led to a run, another hit came after a hit batter in the third and led to the other run. John Anderson started, went 4 inning with the two runs scored on the four hits. Matt Boyd made his Dunedin debut and pitched four innings, no hits, one walk, 5 K's.
Dunedin had 5 hits, Derrick Chung had two.
Lake County 5 Lansing 3
Kendall Graveman did not do well, he let up 7 hits and 3 walks in 4.1 innings. Graveman gave up 4 runs, Kramer Champlin the fifth.
The Lugnuts scored 2 runs in the first, both scoring on an error. The red hot Emilio Guerrero doubled and scored in the fifth. Guerrero had 2 hits, the only Lugnut with a multi-hit game. Guerrero has a 1200 OPS in the last 10 games and a 1044 OPS in August.
Salem-Keizer 1 Vancouver 6
Jeremy Gabryszwski pitched a two hitter over six innings. As usual he didn't walk anyone, he punched out 4. His ERA is now own to 2.59
Vancouver had 11 singles and 8 walks. Dawel Lugo continued his strong hitting from Bluefield with 2 hits. In addition Brenden Kalfus, Andy Fermin, LB Dantzler and Ian Parmley also had 2hits each.
Princeton 5 Bluefield 6
This was a wild one. Bluefield took a 4-1 lead to the ninth. Closer Brett Barber was pounced on for 2 two run homers and Princeton led 5-4. In the bottom of the ninth Jesus Gonzalez reached on an error, DJ Davis walked. Angel Rojas reached on a bunt single to load the bases bringing up Franklin Barreto. Barreto delivered a walk-off 2 run single. Barreto and Matt Dean each had 2 hits and 2 RBI's.
Chase DeJong at one stage struck out 5 hitters in a row. He ended with 6 in 4 innings. He conceded one run on 2 hits.
GCL Braves 5 GCL Blue Jays 6
Rolando Segovia hit his first home run of the year, a 3 run walk-off home run. The Jays trailed 5-2 headed for the ninth. A couple of walks, a hit batter and a sac fly set the stage for Segovia's heroics. Segovia had 2 hits as did Rowdy Tellez and Tom Collins.
Miguel Castro, recently promoted from the DSL, made his first start. He pithed four innings and gave up 3 runs on 6 hits. Jacob Brentz pitched a decent inning. He did allow a run that scored on a wild pitch but that was it.
