Ricky Romero was given the start last-minute for Buffalo. New Hampshire had a great game on both sides of the ball today.  Starter Marcus Stroman was fantastic, as his offense managed to put 12 runs on the board lead by Ryan Schimpf and his two homeruns.  Dunedin was rained out again for the third consecutive day.  Lansing, Vancouver, and Bluefield all lost, while the GCL and DSL Jays each won by a run.

Buffalo 1 – Lehigh Valley 5

Ricky Romero got the start at the last-minute over expected starter Chien-Ming Wang.  Ricky had another disappointing start giving up 9 hits, 1 walk and 6 strikeouts over 5.1 innings pitched.  Mickey Storey, Joel Carreno, and John Stilson followed up with scoreless outings.

The Bisons only managed 5 hits and scored one run when Mike Nickeas was singled home by Ricardo Nanita in the 5th inning.

New Hampshire 12 – Reading 4

Marcus Stroman had another decent start, today he pitched 5.2 innings giving up 2 earned runs on 5 hits, 2 walks, and 8 strikeouts.

The Fisher-Cats offense was on fire tonight as they scored 12 runs.  Adam Loewen was 3-4 with 4 runs scored, a home run, and 3 rbis.  Ryan Schimpf was 2-4 with two home runs, and 4 rbis.

Dunedin – Daytona  (Rained out, Cancelled)

Lansing 0 – Great Lakes 2

Kendall Graveman pitched 5 innings giving up two runs (one earned), on 5 hits with 1 walk and 1 strikeout.  Efrain Nieves and Ian Kadish followed each with 1.2 and 1.1 scoreless innings respectively.

The Lugnuts had 7 hits but didn’t manage to score any runs.  Shortstop Emilio Guerrero had 3 hits.

Vancouver 4 – Everett 8

Vancouver’s defense was ineffective tonight as they committed two errors that lead to starter Jeremy Gabryszwski giving up 6 runs over 5 innings, but only 2 were earned.

Andy Fermin and Dawel Lugo each had two doubles while scoring a run.  LB Dantzler continues to be a  surprise as he hit his team leading 9th home run of the season.

Bluefield 0 – Kingsport 7

Starter Brady Dragmire gave up 7 hits over 5 innings which amounted to 3 earned runs with 0 walks, and 2 strikeouts.  Mark Biggs had a rough 6th inning in which he gave up 3 runs on 3 hits including a home run.

Bluefield didn’t managed to score any runs in this game, but Angel Rojas and Jonathan Davis each had two hits in the loss.

GCL Blue Jays 2 – GCL Yankees 1 (10 Innings)

The GCL Jays pitching was fantastic giving up 2 hits over 10 innings pitched.  The pitchers responsible for today’s outing were Conner Greene, Daniel Lietz, Francisco Diaz, and Jose Fernandez.

Rowdy Tellez had a good game going 1-4 with a double which drove in the game winning RBI in the 10th inning.  Edwin Fuentes had the other RBI in the 4th inning scoring Dan Jansen.

DSL Blue Jays 4 – DSL Brewers 3

Juan Kelly and Juan Tejada each scored two runs.  Leudy Garcia had three RBI’s on two doubles.

Playoff Status:

Buffalo 67-65, 4.5 games back.  They have lost 4 in a row and are suffering with a lot of their team in Toronto.  Their elimination number is 8 meaning they will have to almost sweep their 11 remaining games to make the playoffs.

New Hampshire are 64-65, 2.5 games out of the playoffs.  Their magic number is 10, they also need to run off a lot of wins although they are behind just one team.

Dunedin are 22-32 in the second half but they did make the playoffs in the first half.

Lansing are 24-36 and their magic number is 1.

Vancouver are 12-16 and 2 games behind the leader.  But the leader was the first half champions so they are 1 game out.  Basicially all the teams are bunched and it is a race to the finish.  With 11 games left they need to go 8-3 or maybe 7-4 to get in.

Bluefield are in the playoffs.  Their record is 39-20.

The GCL Jays are 25-29 and their magic number is 4.

In summary Dunedin and Bluefield are in the playoffs.  Vancouver have a decent shot, New Hampshire have a lesser chance.  Buffalo and and the GCL Jays are long shots.  Lansing are toast.

Miguel Castro pitched 7 shutout innings in the GCL today.  There were just two hits off him and he had 6 K's.  Castro had pitched well in the DSL before being promoted.  Castro is still in the project stage, he is 18 years old, tall, 6'5" and thin, but one to keep an eye on.

Whatever happened to Luis Jimenez, who was destroying AAA? Haven't seen him on a Buffalo linescore for a lone time.

I think Jiminez was released at the same time Vargas was ... not enough playing time, despite his impressive results.

Jimenez is still on the Bisons roster. However he has only played one game in the last week, he is either injured or totally out of form. His OPS, post all-star game, is 321 in just 52 AB's.
