Steve Delabar coughed up a three run home run in the bottom of the ninth to turn a two run lead for the Bisons into a loss. New Hampshire were hurricaned out. Dunedin won with Dwight Smith notching four hits. The Lansing game was scoreless until the fourteenth, Great Lakes scored but the Lugnuts came back for the walk-off win. Anthony Alford had four hits. Vancouver lost big. Matt Smoral ran hot and cold but the Bluefield hitters only had two hits. The GCL Jays were well beaten as Patrick Murphy made his first professional start.
Buffalo 6 Scranton 7
Steve Delabar came on in the eighth with a 5-3 Buffalo lead and a runner on second. Scott Sizemore singled in a run but luckily was thrown out going for second. The Bisons added a run in the ninth and Delabar came back out to save the two run lead. Two outs were followed by a triple, a hit batter and a walk-off home run. I don't think we will see Delabar back anytime soon. Liam Hendricks went six innings with two runs conceded.
Cory Aldridge had five major league at-bats with Atlanta in 2001 and 13 with Anaheim in 2012. He is hoping to get back and the triple A part of the journey started Friday. He singled in his first at-bat, and scored, and homered in his second at-bat. He later walked. Ryan Schimpf also homered among his two hits. Eric Kratz and Kevin Pillar also had two hits.
Trenton at New Hampshire - postponed due to hurricane
Clearwater 1 Dunedin 5
Dwight Smith had a game, 4-5 with two doubles and an RBI. The Jays had just two RBI's. One run scored on a balk, one on a wild pitch and one when Emilio Guerrero stole home.
Frank Viola knuckled his way through six innings and just gave up one run. Chad Girodo handled the last three only allowing one hit and one walk.
Great Lakes 1 Lansing 2 - 14 innings
A defensive battle on the fourth of July, with no scoring until the fourteenth. Shane Dawson started and pitched five shutout innings, three hits, three walks, three K's. Phil Kish pitched 4.1 perfect innings. But Adaric Kelly gave up a run in the top of the fourteenth. In the bottom of the inning Matt Dan led off with a single and Mitch Nay reached on an error. The runners were bunted up and then the next hitter was intentionally walked to load the bases. Jason Leblebijian drove in the tying run with an infield single. Mike Reeves grounded to second, the Loons tried for the double play but didn't get it and the winning run scored.
Anthony Alford had four hits but had little support. He also stole a base. In 14 innings the Lugnuts had just nine hits. Mitch Nay had two hits.
Vancouver 3 Spokane 10
Justin Shafer started and gave up four runs. Mark Biggs followed and he gave up three. Alberto Tirado came back from an injury and he also gave up three.
The Canadians had 7 hits with Ryan McBroom and Alexis Maldonado having two each.
Bluefield 0 Elizabethton 5
Matt Smoral retired seven of the first hitters he faced. Eight of the next twelve reached base and just like that Smoral had given up five runs. Chase Wellbrock had four K's in two innings. Carlos Ramirez pitched a scoreless inning. Canadian Jordan Romano pitched the eighth.
The Jays had only two hits, one each for Richard Urena and Dan Jansen.
GCL Astros 13 GCL Jays 4
Patrick Murphy made his first appearance as a Blue Jay and he didn't get out of the first inning. It was his first appearance in at least a year and a half. When the Jays drafted him he had TJ surgery. He allowed five hits, two of the infield variety, one ground ball to the OF and a couple of line drives. The best pitcher for the Jays was 17 year old Daniel Rodriguez from Mexico. He pitched 4.2 innings and registered five K's. He was charged with one run on four hits.
Edwin Fuentes went 3-4 with two doubles. Yeltsin Gudino and Deiferson Barreto each had two hits.
