Only one win on Saturday. Emilio Guerrero hit a home run in the bottom of the eighth for New Hampshire to break a 4-4 tie. HC Hobson had hit a three run home run in the first to give New Hampshire a three run lead but that had disappeared by the eighth, setting up Guerrero for the big hit. Both Buffalo and Lansing lost in extra innings, Buffalo for the second night in a row. That loss for the Bisons wasted Randy Wolf's best start of the season. Anthony Alford reached base five times in Lansing's loss. Dunedin were bombed as Justin Shafer couldn't get out of the first inning in his home debut.

Buffalo 0 Norfolk 1 - 11 innings

This was a pitching duel. Randy Wolf had his best start of the year, just four hits allowed over seven innings. Rob Rasmussen pitched two shutout innings. The bullpen was stretched because these teams played 14 innings on Friday. Bobby Korecky had pitched Friday and was called on in the tenth on Saturday. The tenth was fine but Norfolk pushed across the winning run in the eleventh. That made for two extra inning losses in consecutive days.

The Bisons had seven hits, all singles. Dalton Pompey was 0-3 but he walked twice and was caught stealing. Matt Hague and Brad Glenn had two hits each. Andy Burns was 1-4.

Trenton 4 New Hampshire 5

New Hampshire scored four runs in the first inning but they let Trenton come back to tie the game in the eighth. But in the bottom of the eighth the Fisher Cats produced the winning run. KC Hobson hit a three run home run in the first inning to make it 4-1. In the eighth Emilio Guerrero hit his first home run in AA for the win.

Taylor Cole started and again was OK, but not dominant. He went 5.1 innings and was charged with two runs on four hits with two walks and 5 K's. In the eighth Cory Burns gave up a home run to make it4-3 and then a single. Danny Barnes came out of the bullpen and gave up a couple of hits himself to allow Trenton to tie the game, setting it up for Guerrero. Guerrero, Jon Berti and Dwight Smith each had two hits.

Lakeland 15 Dunedin 1

Justin Shafer is from central Florida and went to the University of Florida. Saturday was his first home start in the FSL and it couldn't have gone much worse. Shafer got only one out while giving up six hits and hitting a batter. Alonzo Gonzalez came on and LB Dantzler made an error plus another hit and after one Dunedin were down 8-0 and in the third they were down 13-0. Jeremy Gabryszwski came out of the bullpen to pitch three innings.

Dunedin's only run came when Matt Dean singled in Dantzler. Dantzler, Derrick Loveless and Dickie Thon each had two hits.

Lansing 4 Great Lakes 5 - 10 innings

Fort Wayne squeezed in the winning run in the tenth off Chase Mallard Mallard was in his fifth inning of work, he did give up eight hits and two runs. Sean Rid-Foley started and went three innings but was charged with three runs. In his first inning he walked a pair before being taken downtown for a three run shot.

Great Lakes walked nine Lugnuts. Anthony Alford walked three times and went 2-3, reaching base five times. JD Davis, Boomer Collins and Tim Locastro also had two hits each.

Dwight Smith singled, doubled and walked in four plate trips.  He's now up to .315/.374/.486 with an even W/K.  He's hit lefties and righties about equally, as he did last year.  After a slowish start, he's just about on pace to be ready for a big league job in just over a year.

Anthony Alford is very, very interesting.  The basic hitting ability and power have yet to come, but he's got some strike zone judgment and tremendous speed.  He is doing everything you could expect at this stage.

yeah smith is building on last year and doing even better this year. and crucially he's showing decent power agsin this year (~.170 iso both years) which is a nice boost to his great contact and strikezone control profile.

Alford has a tremendous overall line with phenomenal contsct and walk rates, but i'm still worried about his too high k rate and perhaps lucky high babip. also, he hasn't shown much power yet this year. still, his line this year is pretty tremendous for a guy in his first real milb season.

Agreed on Smith Jr and Alford. Both 2 of my faves. Mitch Nay has had a terrible start to the year. Everyone was clamouring for Matt Dean to hit for more power, which he has, but it's hurting his AVG. His strike out rate is starting to catch up with him.

Any other legit batting prospect doing well this year? Doesn't seem like it.

Cory burns is making a good case for himself to get released.  I was critical of AA not doing anything to address the pen in the offseason, but there is some really intriguing relief depth as low as A in the org.  John Stilson is back pitching and picked up 4 Ks in his first outing, and could take his spot.  Will Browning in A, along with Blake McFarland and Danny Barnes in AA are utterly dominating and appear ready for promotions, but there's no real spot for them with the vet-heavy AAA pen pitching very effectively.  No wonder the org had no problem letting go of matt west and his intriguing arm.

any thoughts on Tepara?  is he simply a hot hand on the buffalo shuttle or does he have a shot at sticking?

yeah nay looks more like ahrens right now than a real prospect.

dan jansen's line looks awful....but the underlying numbers still look very promising - he's walking way more than he's K-ing, which is rare and awesome. and while his line is being dragged down by a putrid .143avg, that's still higher than his laughable .133babip. and he is showing a bit of pop when he does make contact, so the contact is not all weak.

last year rowdy tellez was sabotaged by an awful first month before killing it the rest of the way:

2014 1st 17gms: 8.8bb%, 17.6k%, .122babip, .103avg, .017iso, 0wrc+
2014 last 48gm: 10.1bb%, 12.6k%, .404babip, .371avg, .171iso, 180wrc+

this year he seems to have cut that down to an awful first week or two:

1st 10gms: 4.4bb%, 31.1k%, .296babip, .220avg, .098iso, 76wrc+
Last 20gm: 8.5bb%, 20.7k%, .345babip, .297avg, .189iso, 148wrc+

up to a 134wrc+ on the year now, which is good in itself, but that is trending up looks like.

oh sorry tellez is only at 122wrc+ now.

Pompey has been really struggling since being sent down (125/250/125). I hope the Jays didn't put a crimp in his development by promoting him too aggressively in 2015.

I'm not worried about it.  I think they made a mistake by not sticking with him (and Norris), once they made the decision to give them jobs out of spring training.

Pompey has walked more than he has struck out since being sent down.  The BABIP will turn around any time now.
