It looked like the Vancouver Canadians were going to end a seven-game losing streak but a meltdown in the late innings gave Salem-Keizer a fourth straight win at the Nat Sunday afternoon.

Starter Jon Wandling throws back to first base to check on a runner in the first inning. He plunked the leadoff hitter but wound up retiring the eight of the next nine hitters he faced.

Connor Panas races home with the C's first run in the second.

Panas came in to score on an Earl Burl III double.

Designated hitter James Lynch keeps the rally going by poking an infield single to second base.

That brings Sean Hurley trotting home with the second Vancouver run.

Earl Burl III touches home plate with the third run after an Andrew Guillotte fielder's choice.

C's manager John Schneider is upset about a safe call at third base when Gunnar Heidt tried to throw out a runner from short in the sixth. A run scored on the play to shave the C's lead to 3-2. Schneider was ejected and replaced by hitting coach Dave Pano.

Justin Atkinson manages to hang on to the ball as Earl Burl III throws out Chase Compton, who was the runner involved in the controversial call a play earlier, on a 7-2 double play from foul territory in left field to end the top of the sixth and preserve Vancouver's one-run lead.

Stuart Holmes takes over for Jon Wandling with two outs in the seventh and ended the frame with a strikeout after walking the first batter he faced. Holmes relieved Wandling, who surrendered two straight solo home runs over the short wall in left field to give Salem-Keizer a 4-3 lead.

Andrew Guillotte completes a mad dash for home and scores the go-ahead run in the seventh. Guillotte singled and was credited with a stolen base on the play. A pair of throwing errors by the Volcanoes with two outs kept the inning alive, allowing James Lynch and Guillotte to score.

Sadly, the game went to hell in a handbasket for the C's after that. Stuart Holmes hit the first batter he faced in the eighth and he would score after a double and a single to tie the game at 5-5. A Holmes throwing error on a sacrifice bunt at home gave the Volcanoes the lead for good. The C's had two runners on in their half of the eighth when Connor Panas reached on an error and stole second base and Sean Hurley joined him on base with a walk with one out but they were stranded. The Volcanoes erupted for four runs against lefty Daniel Young on five hits and a walk in the ninth to give them a 10-5 win.

Radar gun readings for Jon Wandling were 77-92 miles per hour and 77-90 for Stuart Holmes. Wandling was whacked for four runs in 6-2/3 innings on eight hits and a hit by pitch but had a K-BB total of 4-0. Holmes struck out two in his 1-1/3 innings in taking the loss. Daniel Young did not K anybody.

Earl Burl III and James Lynch had two hits apiece while Sean Hurley and Andrew Guillotte reached twice with a hit and a walk. Lane Thomas and Gunnar Heidt were a combined 0-for-10 at the top of the order while Carl Wise went 0-for-4. Thomas also whiffed three times. Justin Atkinson had the other hit as Vancouver was just 2-for-11 with runners 180 feet or less from home plate.

Atkinson threw out a runner trying to steal second as part of a strike 'em out/throw 'em out double play to end the second inning. The C's managed to turn four double plays in this one. Heidt made a nice diving stop at short to get an out in the third.

The Canadians wrap up this five-game series Monday night at The Nat. An official starter is not listed but it may be Clinton Hollon's turn on the hill as he pitched five days ago in Eugene. Hollon is 1-1 with a 3.60 earned run average with a 28-7 K/BB total in 25 innings this season.

Atlanta Braves legend Dale Murphy will be at tonight's game to sign autographs.

Roster Notes, lefty Travis Bergen is on the 7-day Disabled List and righty Joey Aquino has been released according to the league transactions column.
