The C's tried to avoid a five-game sweep by the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes at The Nat Monday night.

Andrew Guillotte tries to lay down a bunt to advance a leadoff double by Lane Thomas in the first inning. He got to Thomas to third with a fly ball instead.

Justin Atkinson puts the ball in play with a ground ball to third base.

The Atkinson groundout brings in Lane Thomas to tie the game at 1-1.

Sean Hurley drew a walk to keep the rally going and proceeded to steal second before heading to third on an errant throw from the catcher.

Gunnar Heidt nearly drops to one knee as he pulls a single to left field to score Sean Hurley for Vancouver's second run.

C's starter Clinton Hollon scrambles to handle a bunt attempt from the Volcanoes' C.J. Hinojosa and was able to throw him out to start the fourth inning.

Andrew Guillotte tried to get something going in the fifth with a leadoff single and a stolen base but he was stranded.

J.C. Cardenas makes it into third base after a two-out triple in the sixth. He too would be stranded.

Gunnar Heidt fouls one off in the eighth inning and would later strikeout. Despite a Guillotte home run in the ninth, the C's would lose 7-3 to the Volcanoes.

As for radar gun readings, Clinton Hollon threw from 75-94 MPH with mid-80's offerings in between.

One roster note, Ryan Hissey is coming to Vancouver after being promoted from the Gulf Coast League. The 21 year-old left-handed hitting catcher was the Jays 14th round pick out of William & Mary in this year's draft and was hitting .355/.462/.548 with one homer and six RBI in 31 at-bats.

The C's were off yesterday but they head down I-5 to Everett to face the Mariners affiliate in a three-game series. Francisco Rios is expected to start the series opener. The Canadians will return for an eight-game homestand beginning Saturday with five against Eugene and three versus Tri-City.

Aaron Sanchez gets the start for Buffalo tomorrow night.  Despite being given the high minors work, he is not exactly on the express train to a major league rotation with outings of 2 and 2.2 innings.  It'd be fine with me if they brought him back to the pen.
