What is the over/under on Pentecosts first game behind the plate? I would guess it will be mid to late June.

Given his injury issues I'm thinking the Jays might want to look at doing a Delgado with him - move to 1B/DH. I'm sure many here don't remember Delgado was the best catching prospect for a few years in MLB, then was put in LF where the Jays had a desperate need before the Jays finally said 'screw it' and put him at 1B.

Pentacost has a good bat for a catcher, but I'm not so sure it plays at 1B. Delgado's bat obviously played anywhere.

And that is the question that will hit the Jays if he can't catch and that should be a strong consideration very soon as a guy who has been hurt as much as he has already is not likely to have a long career behind the plate.

he's a real man of mystery. we have little idea what kind of hitter he is, just that the scouts love him.

Devon Travis starts for Dunedin tonight. The comeback begins.

May is surely a lot better than April.  Pompey, Alford, Pentecost, and now Travis back.  An injection of youth is just what the doctor ordered.

As for Pentecost's ultimate position, I don't know.  I'll say this about his skills.  I understand that he runs well for a catcher and fields well.  He might end up as a catcher or as an outfielder.  If he turns out to be a first baseman, his target will probably be more like Mark Grace than Carlos Delgado.

Travis back makes me embarassingly happy.

The rehab assignment for position players is 20 days.  ETA Toronto June 3.

Pentecost's homer last night was to right-centre.  It's a long way out there in Lansing. It's nice that the opposite field power is there.

So far with his 0-3 and 3 K's today, Alford has 25 K's in 42 at bats.

There's a lot of value even in a brittle catcher.

Maybe best case for Pentecost is late-career Daulton? PT c 1b and corner of. That would have a ton of value on a team like this year's.

I like that thought Lexi - I have a mancrush on nearly every player good enough to be a regular with positional versatility - i certainly get the impression that Pentacost is athletic enough to handle other positions.

Is Rowdy starting to heat up? 7 hits in his last 4 games, including 3 of the dinger variety.

Loup's ERA after today....108. He got one out but surrendered four runs. The Loup flu hit Adonys Cardona as well, he gave up his first runs of the season.

There's a lot to like about Tellez' first 32 games in double A.  In 132 PAs, he has 6 doubles, 6 homers, 24 walks and 28 strikeouts.  That translates to 30 doubles, 30 homers, 120 walks and 140 strikeouts.  His BABIP of .222 leads him to a pedestrian slash line.  He just turned 21 and it's looking like he may have an opportunity in 2017.

The resigning of EE will be heavily dependent on Tellez showing the ability to hit. The majority of prospects were assigned to teams that were considered not to be an aggressive level, except Tellez. I believe in the bat.

Personal recapping Buffalo batting:
1) 1B/DH Casey Kotchman and 2B/3B David Adams have been hitting well but they are then left out of the lineup. So other batters are given more chance to develop performance. I believe Kotchman and Adams are given less PAs because they have mastered some good performance already.
2) Tony Sanchez hit his first HR.
3) OF Lake have been struggling. OF Ceciliani has still to retained his spring training hitting performance.

My take of shuffling the order:

OF Pompey
OF Ceciliani
3B Dominguez
1B Montero
DH Brown
2B Casilia
OF Lake
C Jimenez/Sanchez
SS Mier

After 3 PAs each player -- in late inning:
bench
1B/DH Kotchman -- #1 choice pinch hitter
2B/3B David Adams -- #2 choice pinch hitter, #1 choice substitution
C Sanchez/Jimenez
IF Shane Optiz

If Lake is still struggling, shall he be demoted to New Hamsphire and promote Melky Mesa ?

For player resources outside of MiLB, the independent league -- the Atlantic League teams have started their 2016 season. About twenty former Jays players were playing or coaching in that league. For example, Jesse Litsch is a pitching coach.

Two more hits for Pentecost already so far today.   Travis was 1-for-3 and played 7 innings at 2B again.
