While the B.C. Lions don’t start their season until next week, Vancouver did their best version of a CFL tam as they exploded for 14 runs in their Friday game against the Tri-City Dust Devils.
Three run innings in the first, fourth, and fifth accounted for nine of the 14 runs while the third, seventh, and ninth were single run innings and the eighth saw Vancouver get two.
Jacob Sharp slotted in at DH and had six trips to the plate as did Brennan Orf and Hayden Gilliland who caught this game for. Sharp had 3 total bases and two RBI's as well as run and two hits. Orf had a double, triple and 6 total bases as well as two runs, three hits and two RBI’s.
J.R. Freethy, Manny Beltre had five at bats each with Freethy getting a home run, two hits, three RBI’s against one walk and three strikeouts. Beltre had a run and two hits.
Tucker Toman’s four at bats saw him get five runs to go with a home run, a double, three hits, two RBI’s, and a strikeout.
The series continues today in Tri-City with Vancouver a whopping 14 games back of first in the Northwest League at 23-32. Starters for the game today are Holden Wilkerson for Vancouver (3-3, 4.38) and Peyton Olejnik for the Dust Devils. (1-5, 6.02). First pitch is at 6:30pm Pacific.
New Hampshire beat the Altoona Curve 8-3 Friday after scoring five times in the bottom of the fifth.
Two run doubles by Cutter Coffey and Jorge Burgos as well as an RBI triple from Eddie Michletti Jr. highlighted that fifth inning for the Cats.
Coffey has now hit in seven straight while recently promoted Carter Cunningham got his first hit at Double-A.
Jackson Wentworth recorded a Double-A high six strikeouts in the win. Aaron Munson had three scoreless innings and five strikeouts. Kai Peterson got the win in the ninth.
The two teams continue their series today with RHP Chris McElvain (3-0, 3.38 ERA) slated to start for the Fisher Cats. The Curve will send RHP Khristian Curtis (0-7, 4.74 ERA) to the mound. Game time is 6:00pm local time.
The Dunedin Blue Jays won 9–0 Friday scoring eight runs in the second inning against the Daytona Tortugas.
It was Jake Bloss’ third start in his rehab assignment with the D Jays. He now has a 2.81 ERA to go with 21 strikeouts and a 1.06 WHIP.
Javen Coleman first minor league rehab start had three K’s in a little over an inning of work
JoJo Parker was 1-4 with a home run and Eric Snow went 3-5 with two RBI’s and a run.
Dunedin and Daytona play today at 6:30 pm ET. No starters have been announced for either team.Even a Mad Max Scherzer rehab start couldn’t help the The Buffalo Bisons, who lost 6-3 Friday to the Worcester Red Sox.
Scherzer did get four strikeouts but surrendered three runs, a walk, and five hits in almost five innings of work. One of those runs was a solo homer.
Buffalo couldn’t get any real offence going until the 9th when Je’Von Ward’s pinch hit two run homer made it 6-3. The Red Sox’s shut Buffalo out after that and got the win.
The two teams play Saturday at 4:05 PM EDT. The Bisons starter is Shane Bieber who is in Buffalo on a rehab assignment. There is no starter announced for the Red Sox.
