NOTES
The Bisons had to face Chris Bassitt making a rehab start. He shut them down on three hits over six innings. Starting for the Bisons was fresh blood Josh Stephan. He went seven innings. He was throwing strikes, 76 pitches overall, 57 strikes and just 19 balls. Norfolk scored three runs off him, two earned, one seven hits. He walked no-one, as he was throwing strikes, and he struck out five. He threw six pitches and his FB averaged 91.9. He really did mix his pitches, his most used pitch was his slider at 18%. Lowest was the curve at 9%. That was a pretty good first impression.
Following Bassitt was Juaron Watts-Brown, former Blue Jay, who came in with a nice 3.24 ERA in AAA. But in his second inning of work he lost the strike zone and walked two hitters. Charles McAdoo then hit a three run home run to tie the game. Watts-Brown then walked three more before he was yanked and the Bisons did not score. Pat Gallagher let Norfolk score three runs in the tenth inning. Bisons could not answer. The Bisons had six hits, McAdoo had two.
In NH Austin Cates bobbed and weaved his way through 3.2 innings and 86 pitches. Portland had seven hits and two walks but only scored one run off Cates. His six K's helped him limit the damage. NH put together four singles to score two runs in the third inning. Eric Snow, Dub Gleed, Alexis Hernandez and Hedbert Perez got the hits. Aaron Parker hit a two run home run, his 13th, in the fifth.
After Cates left trouble started. In the seventh Angel Obando walked a pair and left for Kelena Sauer. Sauer went single, out, walk, single, home run and suddenly a 4-1 lead became a 7-4 deficit. Sauer has an eight plus ERA in AA, he hasn't figured it out yet. The Fisher Cats did have eleven hits. Gleed had three, Snow and Cutter Coffey had two. Coffey hasn't been able to put together a consistent run oh hitting this season.
Coming into the Vancouver game Silvano Hechavarria had given up 39 runs over his last seven starts. Friday was an improvement, six innings two runs.
The C's had twelve hits, the bottom third of the order had eight of them. Austin Smith, promoted ten days ago, was 4-4 with a home run. Jaxson West and Raimundo De Los Santos had two hits each. A six run seventh inning won it for Vancouver. In that inning a hit batter was followed by six straight singles.
Karson Ligon came off the IL to start Dunedin's first game and he probably wishes he had waited. Lakeland hit two over the fence in the first inning and Ligon was lifted with five runs allowed in two thirds of an inning. Giacomo Taschin came on in relief later and he was charged with four tuns in three innings.
Dunedin did not score until the last inning when they were down 11-0. Adrian Pinto and Jojo Parker singled and Juan Sanchez brought Pinto home with a sac fly. Pinto, Parker and NDFA Ryan Franden had two hits each.
The Jays got on the board early in game two but it wasn't due to big hitting, except by Jojo Parker. Parker doubled in the first to score Jake Cook who had walked. In the second inning two walks, two hit batters and an error scored two runs. Parker then hit a three run home run. It was also his 13th, just like his namesake in AA. Parker added a double in the seventh. The Jays had three hits in the game, Parker had them all.
Carson Messina started for the Jays and went five shutout innings, no hits allowed. He walked three and struck out four.
