Jays Roundup - The Wisdom of the Fool Won't Set You Free

Today I vow that any Black Sabbath references I make will not look like I'm taking shots at Jays broadcasters. No offence was intended, Mr. Cheek!

Time for some Jays articles!

  1. Fordin Notes on yesterday's game. You gotta love a pitcher like Josh Towers who doesn't speak in cliches.

  2. Fordin discusses the coaching staff in "Matter of trust with Breeden, Tosca: Jays' bench coach, manager have longtime rapport". Did Joe Breeden realize that he was having his picture taken? Last time I made a face like that is when I was told how much my new tires would cost! Five hundred dollars for those?!?

  3. Jeff Blair of the Globe has notes on A-Lo in "Blue Jays' Lopez tinkers with pitches". With all the hockey news yesterday, there was little room for baseball in the sportspages.

  4. Geoff Baker has a piece titled "Jay knows about being No. 1". Mark me down as one of the people who thinks that Werth will make the team as a fourth outfielder. I can't imagine he'd pass through waivers, and I can't imagine the Jays trying to.

  5. The St. Petersburg Times has the must read "Jays experience: minimalist with an emphasis on 'mini'" for anyone planning on seeing the Jays during spring training.

  6. As Coach reported yesterday, "Sheffield avoids thumb surgery". Good news for Sheff, bad news for the rest of the American League. Right now I picture George Steinbrenner in his office, boasting about how the Yankees will win the pennant for sure "unless, of course, my nine all-stars fall victim to nine separate misfortunes and are unable to play tomorrow. But that will never happen. Three misfortunes, that's possible. Seven misfortunates, there's an outside chance. But nine misfortunes? I'd like to see that!''

  7. The Sun has the AP report on yesterday's game.

  8. EddieZosky will love this article; it's on Miguel Batista's off-the-field hobbies. Mike Ganter states that "Batista marches to his own beat". I don't want a beat I can march to; give me something more punk like:

They say they've got control of you
But that's not true you know
They say they're a part of you
And that's a lie you know
They say you will never be
    Free

There's my alternative report of today's news. What's your take?
