In today's afternoon game RHP Bronson Arroyo (1-1, 4.55 ERA in 2004) takes on RHP Pat Hentgen (2-2, 5.59 ERA in 2004).

Hentgen pitched better in his last start against the Royals, but seemed to tire before he was taken out. Looking at Hentgen's splits for the season it appears that 75 pitches is his breaking point right now.

OPS by pitchcount:

Pitches 1-15 .739
Pitches 16-30 .669
Pitches 31-45 .622
Pitches 46-60 .653
Pitches 61-75 .748
Pitches 76-90 1.458
Pitches 91-105 1.434

Nakamura and Frasor are both rested and both have shown the ability to go multiple innings, and Adams has had 2 days off now, so the Jays should be able to handle a short start by Hentgen. With Halladay going tomorrow Tosca won't be afraid to use the pen today.

On the flip side, while the Jays bats have been better lately the power that was expected still hasn't shown up. The Jays are currently tied for 12th out of 14 AL teams in HRs after finishing the 2003 season 5th in the AL in HRs.

Is the roof open?
