The twenty-first century's yesterday
You can care all you want
Everybody does yeah that's okay

A really strange, but fantastic win last night for the Jays. Spencer Fordin sums it up in one paragraph:

It was a wild play to end a wild game, a walk-off rundown of an extremely unique nature. Chris Gomez was on the right side of the winning play, scoring from second on a strange infield single to give Toronto a 6-5 win in extra innings.
Now on to the roundup!
  1. If you didn't see the game, you'll want to read more about it, from articles such as "Jays cash in on Anaheim blunder" by Spencer Fordin, "Angels fall in 10th on plate snafu" by Doug Miller, "Jays slide to victory over Angels" by Jeff Blair, "Weird end to a wild night for Jays" by Mark Zwolinski, "Jays catch Angels napping" by CP, "Miller suffers weird outing" by Mike Ganter, and "Slumping Jays finally run down a victory" also by Mike Ganter.

  2. Fordin Notes on the Jays new batting order. What's the over/under on when Phelps gets moved out of the 8th spot?

  3. Not another 7:05PM EST start at the Dome tonight. It's an off-night for some reason. There will be a 7:05PM EST start at the Dome tomorrow night, though. There the 4-3 Bartolo Colon for the 29-16 Angels faces off against the 2-3 Pat Hentgen for the 18-27 Blue Jays. Spencer Fordin has a game preview. Will the cries to declare Hentgen the closer get louder or quieter if he has a good game?

  4. If you've been following the Expos at all this year, you won't be surprised to hear that they lost their fifth in a row last night.

  5. Richard Griffin talks to a former Jay now Angel in "Escobar's T.O. time was up".

  6. A Canadian Press article discusses what a few Bauxites have been arguing for in "Frasor makes pitch for closer's role".

  7. Carlos Delgado left the game yesterday with a jammed right knee. No word yet on how long he'll be out.

Question of the Day: Yesterday there was a rumour that Carlos Delgado was going to be sent to the Dodgers in exchange for outfielder Juan Encarnacion and prospect James Loney. Assuming the Jays didn't have to pay the Dodgers any money (unlikely, IMHO), this would save the Jays around $13 million this season. If you were J.P., would you make this trade if you didn't have to pick up any salary? Would you make this trade if you were Paul DePodesta, the GM of the Dodgers?
