BBFL Week 17: Walruses Have Thick Skin

I tried. I really tried. I’m not suggesting that you should call me Ishmael or anything, but I threw everything I had up against those Walrus, making trades to better balance my team and micro-managing it daily. I was even leading 9-3 most of the week. It was all a ruse. I think he does it on purpose.

With the Toronto Walrus winning an 8-3-1 victory over the previously 3rd place, now 4th place, Red Mosquitos, Kent’s record in the top spot is now strengthened. Thanks to a 11-0-1 week by AGF, however, vaulting him from 4th to 2nd, the Walrus lead has actually shrunk – to 9.5 games. Mebion Glyndwr dropped back to 3rd and lost half a game in the standings, despite beating cellar dweller Jicks Rays 7-3-2. Rounding out the Top 5, Hannibal’s Cannibals cross the proverbial Alps, moving up from 6th with a 7-4-1 week over the Horse Field Hammers.

The Gashouse Gorillas had a nice week, moving from 8th up to 6th, and now occupy the last Championship playoff spot. Will they hold it against the slowly sinking Eastern Shore Birds? Greg’s Birds were the victims of AGF’s decision to get gnarly on the league this week and the shutout drops him from 5th, all the way down to 11th! The rest of the Consolation bracket remains the same, with the Halos, Senators, Baird Brain, Hammers and Rats all shuffling spots but remaining in the Top 12.

The race to avoid relegation is getting interesting but maybe less so for Commissioner Moffatt and the Fish Candy. With an 8-3-1 week, the Fish Candy are now 5.5 games ahead of relegation. Hopefully, Fish Candy have properties more like candy than fish and actually stick to that lead. The K-Town Mashers trade spots with the Thunderbirds and move out of the bottom three spots, leaving the Thunderbirds, Springfield Isotopes and Jicks Rays, who have already raised the white flag, as the likeliest candidates to find themselves in Barfield Division for 2005.

This is where the standings would normally go but since Greymatter is being silly and my newborn daughter needs to be burped, it's just going to have to wait.

NOTE: The trade deadline is only two weeks away. Get those offers in!
