SWEEEEEP!

  1. Short recap: Jays 8 - Orioles 5. Homeruns for Hinske and Wells, doubles for Johnson and Berg. The relievers struggled a bit except for Speier who pitched 1 1/3 innings, giving up a hit and striking a batter out. Jays are now four games out of fourth and six out of third.

    Longer recaps:

  2. Fordin Notes on the tear Delgado has been on lately:

He's got a healthy head start: Over the last 26 games, Delgado has nine homers and 26 RBIs. He's finally finding his best form, rounding into shape after six weeks on the disabled list. Even before that, Delgado was having a rough year, cursed with April yips at the plate.

In less pleasent news, Frankie Cat is done for the year:

Frank Catalanotto's season is over. Toronto's designated hitter has been playing with an abdominal condition that will require surgery, and by joint consultation with his manager, he decided the time was right.

Reliever Dave Maurer has been called up to fill Cat's roster spot.

  3. Rutsey Notes also discuss Frankie Cat's injury:

"The last couple of weeks I realized I wasn't doing the team or myself much good," Catalanotto said. "I wasn't driving the ball, I was going through the motions."

It was probably best for Cat to shut it down, as he was hitting only .225 since July 20th and was 0 for his last 18.

  4. Tonight's 7:05PM EST start at Skydome should be a great one. The Jays are sending the 8-8 Ted Lilly to the hill, while the Red Sox counter with the 13-4 Pedro Martinez. Mr. Rapid-Fire Non-Sequitur has a game preview that you can read. FOR FREE. Isn't the internet grand?

I know some of you are hoping the Jays get a higher draft pick, but for me, it'd be great if the Jays finished ahead of the Borioles and/or the Tampa Bay Suckerfish.
