Playoff Races Update

With no Jays game today, I thought I'd start a playoff catch-all thread.

I've just watched the last half inning of the Oakland-Texas ballgame.

Oakland was up 4-2 with Dotel pitching. Eric Young thought he had a leadoff walk on a 3-1 pitch, only to have umpire Tim McClelland make a delayed-call strike. Young ended up flaring out to the second baseman. Blalock fouled off several tough two-strike pitches before blasting one just over the right-centre wall: 4-3. On the next pitch, Mike Young hit a liner down into the leftfield corner for a double. Mark Teixeira was walked for the fifth time in the game, prompting the Rangers broadcaster to quip: "they've pitched to him like he was made out of plutonium".

Brian Jordan had made outs in three previous 1st and 2nd, 1 out situations and did so again - he hit a ball up the middle that Scutaro got to, but the toss was a little low and Crosby couldn't turn the DP. Dellucci came up, fell behind 0-2 on called strikes. The next pitch was almost in the same spot as the second, but was called a ball. After a foul off and a ball leveled the count, Dellucci hit a liner towards the RF corner. Dye went all out to catch it but just missed; the ball rolled to the wall and Jordan scored the winning run from first base.

Final Score - Texas 5 Athletics 4, and the Rangers sweep to close to within two games of the division lead.
