A 2 and 2 night on the farm, with the 3 Stars brought to you by the letter C.

Toledo 7 Syracuse 2

The Sky Chiefs took one on the chin last night, with Ryan Glynn absorbing most of the punishment. Glynn gave up 6 earned runs in 6 innings on 8 hits (including 3 doubles and 3 homers) and 1 walk with 5 strikeouts. Bryant Nelson walked softly and carried the big stick, with a homer and an RBI single. Aaron Hill went 2-4 and is now hitting .319.

Portland 2 @ New Hampshire 4

Ismael Ramirez and David Pauley faced off and put up nearly identical lines – each with 3 hits and 2 runs allowed in 7 innings, Ramirez 4/2 on the K/BB, Applebon 5/1. But while Jordan De Jong and Lee Gronkiewicz backed up Ramirez with 2 innings of spotless relief, the Portland ‘pen coughed up 2 runs in the 8th inning.

2B Carlo Cota was the fiercest Cat in the contest, smacking a double and a triple. RF Ron Acuna also trotted out a three-bagger, while LF Ron Davenport preferred to jog, so he hit it right over the wall. Running? We’ve got that too: SS Raul Tablado and catcher Eric Kratz each stole a base.

Dunedin 9 @ Brevard County 3

The Jays scored 3 runs in the 2nd and 5 in the 4th for a decisive win over the Manatees. It was more “long-sequence” offense than “big-blast”, as 2B Ryan Roberts, C Robinzon Diaz, DH Clint Johnston, and 1B Joey Reiman all had 2 base knocks – Johnston being the most impressive of these as his line included a double and 2 walks.

On the mount, Dave Purcey was effectively wild, walking 4 but striking out 6 and surrendering only 2 hits in his 6 innings. He was charged 2 unearned runs following an error by SS Manny Mayorson in the 3rd, and an earnie in the 6th. Brian Reed, Brad Mumma, and Milton Tavarez all read the same memo (written in binary?) and went out and tossed 1 inning, 1 hit, 0 runs, 0 walks, 1 strikeout.

Southwest Michigan 7 @ Lansing 2

Another tough outing for Juan Perez as SWM (Single white males? Somebody call Geoff Baker!) included a homer amongst 10 baserunners in his 5 innings. This netted the Devil Rays 6 runs, 5 earned, and Perez’ record dropped to 2-3 with a 6.51 ERA. Jordy Templet allowed both runners he inherited to score, and Adrian Martin was touched for a solo homer. Templet and Martin each pitched 2 innings.

Catcher Curtis Thigpen was the best Lugnut hitter this night, clubbing a homer and a single in addition to drawing a walk. SS Jason Armstrong also had two hits, and 3B Christian Snavely took 2 free passes.
