The SkyChiefs were shut out at the hands of Ottawa’s John Stephens and 3 relievers. Shaun Marcum went a solid 7, 2 earned and 1 unearned on 6 hits (1 homer), 3 punchouts and no walks. Francisco Rosario recorded two outs and allowed one hit. Jason Alfaro had 2 of the 4 Syracuse hits.
The news didn’t get any better in Double-A – never mind that the Fisher Cats were also shut out, Casey Janssen left the game with a right ankle injury suffered while covering first base on a double-play grounder from the 3rd batter of the game. Cameron Reimers was pressed into service and admirably sucked up 4-1/3 innings, allowing 7 runs (5 earned). Like the Chiefs, the Cats had only 4 hits – singles by Negron and Kratz, doubles by Roberts and Sanders.
A run for the good guys! Joey Reiman scored it, coming home on a groundout by Robinzon Diaz. Reiman had reached on a double and moved over on a wild pitch. Jayce Tingler had the only other Dunedin hits, a double and a single. Mike MacDonald started and went 6-2/3 innings, allowing 2 earned runs of 4 total on 7 hits and a walk, striking out 4 along the way. Daryl Harang finished up with 2-1/3 scoreless.
The Lugnuts extended their winning streak to 6 games with a defeat of the Devil Rays that was closer than the score with imply. Lansing held a 2-1 lead through 7 and a half before putting up a 5-spot in the bottom of the eighth. David Hicks delivered a 3-run triple, then scored on a passed ball-strikeout by Yuber Rodriquez. After a wild pitch moved Rodriquez up to second, Josh Lex drove him in with a single.
Hicks was joined by Eric Nielsen and Charlie Anderson in the 2-hit ring, with those two having doubles to go with their singles. Ryan Klosterman a triple for 4 plate appearances, and Rodriquez wore the Golden Sombrero despite his role in the big inning.
Danny Core started for Lansing and collected his 7th win of the season for his 6 innings of 4-hit ball, 1 run allowed with a 3-2 K-BB. Juan Perez and Joey McLaughlin shut things down over the final 3 frames.
It was a sudden reversal of fortunes for the DoubleDays, as they went from no-hitting Batavia on Friday to being on the wrong end of a 2-hitter in Mahoning Valley on Saturday. Those two would be singles by Sean Shoffit and Brian Pettway. Cory Patton and Joe Metropoulos each took an oh-fer, while Ryan Patterson had only a walk to show for 4 plate appearances.
Jesse Litsch went just 2-2/3, allowing 1 hit and an uncharacteristic 3 walks. The Auburn Citizen doesn’t indicate that he left due to injury, so he may just have been on a low pitch count. Randy Dicken took the loss for allowing 3 runs (2 earned) over the next 4 innings, though he allowed just 3 hits and struck out 5 versus just 1 base on balls.
The Blue Jays jumped out to a 10-0 lead after 3 innings and cruised to victory over the Kinsport Mets. Jacob Butler hit a grand slam, Anthony Hatch drove in 3 as part of a three-hit night (single-double-homer), and Chris Looze also went deep. Graig Badger was on base 3 times with 2 doubles and a walk. The P-Jays drew 8 walks and rapped out 11 hits.
Hector Delgadillo turned in another good start, going 5 innings and allowing 2 runs on 5 hits while striking out 5 and walking 1. Matt Foster had an interesting line of 1-2/3 innings, one earned run and 4 unearned on 4 hits and 2 walks.
