OK, OK, I'll drag myself away from the Data Table I'm working on...

I understand there was some controversy in last night's Angels-White Sox game?

As someone who scores games, and watches the umpires like a hawk, I can testify that the home plate umpire's visual gestures mean nothing. Otherwise, they might have a standard procedure, followed by everyone. But no two home plate umpires make the same visual gestures. They're a convenience offered up for the fans. So everything depends on what Eddings said at the time...

Cardinals won, if anyone's interested...

Jim Tracy gets the Pittsburgh job. Does this mean Ken Macha in Los Angeles?

Mel Stotttlemyre says he's through in New York. He says this every year, generally more than once. But this time, who knows... it might be for real.

The Yankees say their top priority is re-signing Matsui, but you can believe they will also be going after Johnny Damon and B.J. Ryan. I think they'll leave A.J. Burnett to the Red Sox, myself.

Tonight - there is baseball!
