Smith, Majewski lead the charge

The minor league teams went 2-1 and David Smith grabs the first star. Chip Cannon, who else, hit the first minor league home run for the Jays this season.

New Hampshire 7 New Britain 3

New Hampshire went to 2-0 with another good win in Connecticut. In the second inning Adam Lind walked, David Smith singled, Ron Davenport and Eric Arnold hit sac flies to give the Cats a 2-0 lead. In the third inning Chip Cannon hit the first Jays minor league home run of the spring to make it a 3-1 game. The Cats put it away with three runs in the fifth, Manny Mayorson doubled, Cannon walked, and Lind singled to load the bases. Smith cleared them with a double.

Davis Romero pitched five innings for the win allowing all three New Britain runs on eight hits. Romero walked none and recorded five K's. Jason Arnold, Jim Bullard and Rodney Ormond shut out the Rock Cats over the last four innings. David Smith was the hitting star going 3-4 with 2 doubles and 3 RBI's. Mayorson also had 3 hits, Lind and Carlo Cota had 2 each.

Clearwater 6 Dunedin 5

The Phillies scored five in the fifth to give them enough to win this game. Eric Fowler started and was strong through three innings giving up one unearned run on one hit. In the fourth the Phillies had three hits but failed to score as two runners were thrown out at home. But in the fifth Fowler gave up four hits and Robinzon Diaz made an error leading to five runs.

Dunedin had scored a couple in the first when they loaded the bases on a Ryan Klosterman double and a walk and a hit batter. Dustin Majewski then singled in both runs. The Jays pulled within one in the eighth with three runs highlighted by an inside the park home run from Ryan Patterson.

Dustin Majewski went 3-4 with a run and 2 ribbies, Robinzon Diaz had two hits including a double.

Southwest Michigan 3 Lansing 7

Lansing got out to a quick start with three runs in the first highlighted by doubles from Chris Gutierrez and Brian Pettway. Michigan scored two in the second and another in the fourth to tie the game but Lansing put up another three spot in the fifth. Jesus Gonzalez led off with a double followed by singles from Sean Shoffit and Chris Gutierrez and a ground out. Yuber Rodriguez singled, stole a base and scored on a Gonzalez single in the eighth.

Kristian Bell started and went five innings giving up three runs on three hits and three walks with five K's. Billy Carnline pitched three innnings of one hit relief. Shoffit, Gutierrez, Metropoulos and Gonzalez each had two hits.
