Davis Romero was in and out of trouble, but threw 6 shutout innings to move to 4-2 on the season.  He walked 4 and struck out 6, and gave up 5 hits, as he lowered his ERA to below 2.  Chip Cannon homered in the 2nd inning, and then the Cats scored a couple of unearned runs in the 3rd with David Smith's triple sandwiched between 2 errors.  Curtis Thigpen reached base in all three of his plate trips, with two singles and a hit by pitch.  David Smith threw out a runner at first to record a double play, in addition ot contributing his triple. Adam Lind took an 0-fer. Jason Arnold and Tracy Thorpe pitched the last 3 innings in fine fashion, with Thorpe throwing a perfect ninth including two punch-outs.

The D'Jays had plenty of baserunners, but four double plays were their undoing.  Aaron Mathews went 4-4 with a double, a triple and a stolen base, while Robinson Diaz and Eric Nielsen had two hits each.  Orlando Trias started and was rocked for all five Cardinal runs in 3 innings of work.  T.J. Gornati and Justin James held the fort admirably to give their mates a chance to catch up.
