Syracuse and New Hampshire took it on the chin yesterday. Josh Banks surrendered a couple more home runs as the Chiefs ran out of pitchers. The Fisher Cats "blew up good" late in their game. Dunedin salvaged a win for the affiliates as Lansing had a day off. Orlando Trias pitched well enough to win, with thanks to the bullpen, while Robinzon Diaz and Ryan Klosterman supplied the offense.
Norfolk scored four runs in the second inning and tacked on eight in the last two innings to cruise to a big win. Norfolk rang up 17 hits to six from the Chiefs. Josh Banks was victimized by the home run in the second inning, Michael Tucker and Juan Tejeda homered to account for the four runs. Banks pitched five innings allowing five runs on eight hits. The Chiefs teased with three runs in the fifth, Chad Mottola drove in two with a home run while the catchers combined for the third run, Mike Mahoney drove in Jason Phillips. That inning accounted for half the Chiefs hits. The Tides scored two more in the eighth off Ryan Houston helped by an error from Sergio Santos making the runs unearned. In the ninth Norfolk scored two more off Ryan Houston when, with two outs, Luis Figueroa was called on to pitch. Figgy allowed a hit and was replaced by Danny Solano. Solano gave up a walk and three singles before getting the final out. Having played eleven innings the night before and with some pitchers injured the Chiefs ran out of arms. A night to forget in Syracuse. Gustavo Chacin starts for the Chiefs tonight.

It looked good for a while. Davis Romero started and through six innings the Fisher Cats were leading 3-1 and Romero had only allowed two hits. But in the seventh Romero gave up four hits and two walks leading to four more runs while he was pitching and six in total once Danny Hill gave up a triple to the first hitter he faced. I guess it's fair to say Romero ran out of gas although he could have been unlucky, the first three hits in the seventh were ground balls, it is impossible to tell how hard they were hit. Hill gave up a three run home run in the eighth to complete the collapse.
New Hampshire had scored a run in the first inning on a single by Manny Mayorson, a double by Curtis Thigpen and a sac fly from David Smith. The Cats added a run in the fourth, Eric Kratz singled to lead-off the inning and scored on a sac fly from Mayorson. In the sixth Brad Hassey and Adam Lind doubled to give New Hampshire a brief 3-1 lead. Hassey singled to lead off the eighth and scored on a Mayorson single. New Hampshire outhit Connecticut 12-9 but as they say the Defenders bunched their hits. Mayorson and Hassey each went 3-4.
Dunedin went ahead in the second on singles by Ryan Klosterman and David Corrente. Dunedin tacked on two more in the third when Eric Nielsen doubled in a pair. Orlando Trias pitched well through five giving up one run on four hits but he allowed three of the first four hitters to reach in the sixth. Daryl Harang came on to bail him out of a bases-loaded, one out, jam. The Jays put it away in the seventh when Ron Davenport came to the plate with the based loaded and doubled to clear them. Juan Peralta, Chris Gutierrez and Robinzon Diaz scored.
Trias' line was 5.1 6 2 2 3 2 and his ERA is 4.76. Daryl Harang went 3.1 scoreless innings and had 6 K's. Robinzon Diaz and Ryan Klosterman had two hits each.
