Syracuse 12 @ Pawtucket 3
Rob Cosby had 3 hits, worth 2 ribbies apiece. Cosby homered, doubled and had a 2 run single in the Sky-Chiefs 6 run 8th inning explosion which tore up a 3-3 tie. John Hattig went 2-3 with 2 walks, one of which was a bases-loaded effort and earned him a GWRBI. Russ Adams had 3 hits, and raised his triple A batting average to .358. Josh Towers started and went 8 solid innings, allowing 3 earned runs on 6 hits (including 2 homers) and no walks, while punching 4 PawSox. The Chiefs and Sox play a day-night twinbill today with Gustavo Chacin getting the daytime gig and Francisco Rosario hurling under the Friday Night lights.
New Hampshire 2 @ Akron 4
Jesse Litsch had a better outing, but didn't see much on the bottom line. In 5.2 innings, he allowed no homers, walked 2 and struck out 10, but 8 hits and 3 earned runs meant another loss. Ryans Klosterman and Patterson each had 2 hits for the Fisher Cats, with Patterson being thrown out at the plate on a key play in the 7th inning. Curtis Thigpen pinch-hit and had a sacrifice fly.
Dunedin 5 @ Jupiter 6
The D'Jays held a 4-0 lead through the stretch on the strength of more fine pitching from Kurt Isenberg and a 2 run homer from Carlo Cota, but it all fell apart for Danny Core and Paul Phillips in the bottom of the 7th inning, with a 3 run homer off Phillips the game-deciding blow. Isenberg went 5.2 shutout innings, allowing 5 hits and 3 walks, while striking out 4. Cota added a run-scoring single for 3 RBIs on the night, while Aaron Mathews, Juan Peralta and Eric Nielsen each chipped in with 2 hits.
Quad Cities 4 @ Lansing 6
It was topsy-turvy night at Olds Park. Power-hitting catcher Josh Bell went 3-3 with a walk and scored 3 runs, while erstwhile leadoff hitter Shane Kalter went 2-4 and drove in 3. The pride of Mississauga, A.J. Wideman, went 5 solid innings, allowing 2 earned runs on 6 baserunners with 7 strikeouts. Adrian Martin allowed no baserunners, but one unearned run, in 3 innings of relief for the win and Sean Stidfole finished up by giving up a homer and double in the ninth, but struck out the side.
Batavia 7 @ Auburn 4
A late Doubleday rally fell short. Shawn Scobee doubled and tripled and drove in 2, while second baseman and leadoff hitter Scott Campbell earned his stripes by reaching base 4 times in 5 trips. Starter Hector Delgadillo did not have it and was gone after 4 innings. Benjamin Harrison and Juan Nieves gave the home nine a chance by throwing 4 innings of solid relief.
Pulaski 1 @ Danville 3, 10 innings
Alex McRobbie 's fine start went a-glimmer as the P-Jays could manage only 1 run on 10 hits. McRobbie went 5 innings, and allowed a run on 4 hits and no walks with 7 strikeouts. Nathan Starner struck out 4 in 2 scoreless innings of relief; he now has an ERA of 2.04 with 15 walks and 29 strikeouts in 17 innings of work. Edgar Estanga watched as a 2-run walkoff homer left the yard. Jonathan Jaspe had 3 hits including 2 doubles, while Travis Snider doubled among his 4 plate appearances.
