No Jays farm team outhit their opponent but the affiliates won 3 of 5 games.  Lansing had the same number of hits as runs, two.  Chase Lirette made sure those two hits were enough to win the game.

Ottawa 0  Syracuse 4 - game 1, 7 innings

Ty Taubenheim recovered from a shaky first outing to pitch six shutout innings with 7 hits and one walk.  A pair of two home runs propelled the Chiefs to victory.  Syracuse got on the board in the fourth, Mike Vento doubled and John-Ford Griffin hit his fourth home run.  In the next inning Rey Olmedo singled and Vento hit a two run home run.  The Chiefs had only five hits, Vento went 3-3.

Ottawa 4  Syracuse 3 - game 2, 7 innings

Because of a winter storm heading to Syracuse the Chiefs cancelled Sundays and Mondays games and made Saturday a doubleheader on opening day.  What could be better!  Ismael Ramirez had to battle his way out of the first inning, he threw 32 pitches and gave up two runs.  Ramirez gave up another run in the fourth and left after 3.2 innings having allowed 5 hits and two walks.  Beau Kemp gave up another run in the sixth.  Syracuse scored a run in the second when John-Ford Griffin singled and scored on a sac fly.  In the sixth inning Mike Vento doubled, Griffin walked and Chad Mottola later drove in both with a single.  Griffin went 2-2 to raise his average to .361.  Mottola also had two hits to push his average over .200.

New Hampshire 4  New Britain 2

The Fisher Cats took an early lead and held the Rock Cats at bay to get the win yesterday.  Wayne Lydon led off the game with a double and scored on a couple of groundouts.  In the second inning Aaron Mathews walked and Eric Kratz doubled him home.  David Smith then singled Kratz home.  New Britain pushed across a couple of runs against Mike MacDonald to make it a 3-2 game but in the ninth Ryan Klosterman doubled and scored on a groundball.  MacDonald went seven innings giving up eleven hits and the two runs.  Tracey Thorpe and Lee Gronkiewicz eached pitched a perfect inning to preserve the win.  New Hampshire were outhit 11-8, Eric Kratz went 3-3 with two doubles and a walk.  Chip Cannon went 0-4 with 2 K's.

Dunedin 1  Fort Myers 3

Russell Savickas pitched seven innings and gave up three runs on seven hits.  Dunedin were outhit 8-5.   Dunedin's only run came on a Jacob Butler double and a Cory Patton single.  Butler and Adam Calderone had two hits each and both are hitting over .400 so far in 2007.

Lansing 2  Great Lakes 0

Lansing had only two hits in the game but that was enough to score two runs.  I don't know anything about the Great Lakes starter Cody White but on this night he pitched like a wild hard-thrower, four innings pitched nine strikeouts, five walks, and one hit allowed.  Lansing's first hit by Yuber Rodriguez, sandwiched by two walks, set the stage for a Travis Snider sac fly.  Lansing second hit, by Josh Bell, drove in Lansing's second run.  Chase Lirette started and pitched six shutout innings allowing three hits and one walk while racking up eight strikeouts.

3 star selection

3rd star - Mike Vento, 3-3, DB, HR, and 1-4, DB
2nd star - Eric Kratz, 3-3, 2 doubles
1st star - Chase Lirette, six shutout innings
