Syracuse won in a game with 31 hits between both teams, New Hampshire won a game that had 28 hits. Dunedin won a game in which starting pitcher Kenny Rodriguez faced one hitter over the minimum in seven innings. Lansing won a game in which Dayton didn't have a hit after the third inning. Curtis Thigpen, Russ Adams and Adam Lind each homered in the Chiefs win.
Thirty one hits in this game, the Chiefs had seventeen of them. Charlotte led 5-1 after five innings. John Parish started and gave up the five runs on six hits. Three of the runs were earned thanks to two errors by Parish. The Chiefs first run came in the third inning, Curtis Thigpen doubled and scored on a Wayne Lydon single.
Despite trailing coming into the sixth inning Syracuse scored seven runs in the sixth innings and nine more in the seventh. The first two runs in the sixth scored on an error and a bases loaded walk, but then Buck Coats had a two run single and Thigpen hit a three run home run to give Syracuse the lead. Included in the nine runs in the seventh were a two run home run by Russ Adams and a grand slam from Adam Lind.
The Chiefs had seventeen hits, Chip Cannon had three, Lydon, Lind, Adams, Luna and Thigpen had two each.
New Hampshire were outhit 16-12 but prevailed. The Fisher Cats got on the board quickly, Scott Campbell led off the bottom of the first by walking, Aaron Mathews singled Campbell to third. A Travis Snider ground-out scored one run and Brian Jeroloman singled to make it 2-0.
in the second inning, facing Ricky Romero, Connecticut sent ten men to the plate, seven of them had hits leading to five runs and a 5-2 lead. Romeo allowed a single in each of innings three through five and he was pulled after five innings having conceed five run on ten hits.
New Hampshire started chipping away in the second inning scoring two runs. An error, a walk to Chris Gutierrez and a single from Campbell loaded the bases. Mathews grounded out to score one run and Snider singled to score another and the score was 5-4.
In the fourth inning Chris Gutierrez hit a solo home run to tie the game. Later Mathews singled, Snider walked then David Smith and Jeroloman each singled in a run, 7-5 Fisher Cats.
Sean Stidfole gave up a run in the sixth inning but Snider singled in two insurance runs in the eighth. Zach Dials pitched the ninth for the save.
New Hampshire had twelve hits, Campbell, Mathews, Snider and Jeroloman each had two each.
Dunedin scored all the runs they would need in the first inning. With one out Adam Calderone doubled followed by an RBI double by the hot hitting JP Arencibia. Arencibia scored on a sac fly. In the third inning Calderone hit a solo home run.
Meanwhile Kenny Rodriguez was dealing. Through six innings Rodriguez faced the minimum eighteen hitters, he did allow two hits but erased both on double plays. In the seventh Rodriguez gave up a one out double, and promptly picked the runner off at second. However the next batter singled before Rodriguez finished the inning. Rodriguez pitched seven innings facing just twenty two hitters. He did give up four hits, no walks and had seven K's. Edward Rodriguez gave up a run in the eighth.
The Jays had six hits, Calderone had two.
Unusually the starting pitcher did not get the win. Nate Starner pitched four shutout innings, racked up eight K's, gave up four hits and was pulled. Starner did have to battle in the third inning when the bases were loaded with no one out but Starner then struck out the side.
Alan Farina pitched very well in relief, three almost perfect innings, just an error by Justin Jackson put a runner on. Tim Collins pitched the last two shutout innings. Dayton did not have a hit after Starner loaded the bases in the third inning.
Lansing scored a run in the second inning, John Tolisano singled and later scored on a groundout. In the third inning Jackson had a lead-off walk, Darin Mastroianni doubled him to third, Matt Liuzza singled in a run, Tolisano hit a sac fly to score a second run, after a wild pitch Manny Rodriguez singled in Liuzza to make it 4-0.
In the fifth inning Liuzza hit a two run home run followed by back to back doubles from Johermyn Chavez and Mike McDade.
Trouble came in the sixth inning. Justin Jackson and John Tolisano were both hit by pitches, Jackson later scored on a sac fly. Jackson stayed in the game for the top of the seventh but was taken out for a pinch hitter in the bottom of the inning.
Lansing had twelve hits, McDade had three, Mastroianni, Liuzza and Rodriguez had two each.
