Two wins as the hitting was in short supply. Lansing led the affiliates in hits with eight, and that took eleven innings. The six teams combined to get 33 hits. The poor hitting disguised good starting pitching from Davis Romero (2 hits in six innings), Ricky Romero (five hits in eight innings), and Castillo Perez (two hits in six innings). Three of the four losses were recorded by the bullpen.
After six shutout innings from Davis Romero, the Chiefs tried to get a three inning save from Brian Wolfe. In the bottom of the ninth, with two out, Wolfe gave up two ground ball singles, one of them deflected by Wolfe. Then Wolfe gave up a double, scoring both runs and taking the loss. Romero gave up three hits in his six innings and recorded six K's. Syracuse scored their run in the sixth, Chip Cannon worked a lead-off walk, moved to second on a sacrifice and scored on a single by Russ Adams. The Chiefs had only three hits in the game.
Ricky Romero pitched well, again, eight innings, five hits one run. New Hampshire scored their run in the second, David Smith tripled and scored on a ground out. The game went to the ninth inning tied at 1 and Zach Dials came on. The first three hitters went double, triple, single and the Fisher Cats trailed 3-1. New Hampshire had only 5 hits.
Randy Boone's up-and-down season at Dunedin continued, coming off a very good start he gave up four runs in six innings on nine hits. Dunedin scored two runs in the second, David Corrente doubled in two walks. Robinzon Diaz also doubled in a walk in the fourth. But Dunedin had only six hits in the game, Diaz had two of them.
Quad Cities 6 Lansing 4 - 11 innings
Lansing got on the board in the first when Manny Rodriguez hit a three run home run. Marc Rzepczynski had a one hitter through four innings but gave up three runs in the fifth. In that fifth two walks, two hits and an error added to three runs. Zep gave up a two out walk in the sixth and was pulled but Jimmy Dougher allowed a run scoring double. Moises Sierra hit a solo home run in the seventh to tie the game at four. The Lugnuts had chances to win, a runner at third with one out in the eighth, a runner on second with two outs in the ninth, and a lead-off double in the tenth. Edgar Estanga, in his fourth inning pitching, gave up two runs in the eleventh and the Lugnuts could not come back.
Yohermyn Chavez was the only hitter with two hits, Lansing had eight hits in eleven innings. Chavez was thrown out trying to steal third, with no-one out, in the tenth, a bad mistake.
Through four and a half innings there was only one hit in the game. Adam Amar got Auburns first hit with a home run in the fifth. Robert Sobolewski followed with a single and later scored on a Bryan Kervin single. those two runs held up until the eighth when Tri-City scored two to tie. In the bottom of the eighth, with two outs, Karim Turkamani singled, Chris Demons walked, Chris Hopkins singled in a run, a balk scored a second and Mike McDade singled in the third run. Castillo Perez started and pitched six shutout innings with only two hits.
Good pitching for the Jays in this game, Scott Gracey started and pitched three shutout innings, Matt Moody followed and added 2.2 shutout innings. The Jays scored a pair in the third when Brad McElroy hit a two run home run. Jon Talley singled in two more in the eighth. The Jays had only five hits, local guy Kyle Gilligan had two and is now hitting over .300.
