Five games produced a couple of nice performances including good starts from both a recent Blue Jay and a future hopeful.
The Chiefs won this one thanks to a four run second inning. Brian Jeroloman and Travis Snider each had two hits and an RBI. Snider also stole his first AAA base. Wayne Lydon had one himself and leads Snider by 41. With his two hits, Snider is now batting 360/392/500 in Syracuse over 46 ABs. Oh, and Russ Adams went 0-for-4 with 4 Ks.
Scott Richmond started for Syracuse and went seven innings allowing three runs on seven hits while striking out three. Richard Griffin is positive that Richmond would rather have been at the closing ceremonies. Bill Murphy picked up his first save with two innings of work.
Brad Mills was on the mound for the Cats on Sunday and didn't disappoint. The 23 year-old went seven shutout innings, allowing three hits and three walks while striking out six. With the win, Mills moves to 3-2 in New Hampshire and 13.5 on the season. His Double-A ERA fell to 1.10. Michael MacDonald pitched a scoreless 9th for the save.
At the plate, Chris Guttierez went 3-for-4 with a walk, two doubles, and an RBI. Jacob Butler was the only other Fisher Cat with multiple hits. J.P. Arencibia and Brian Dopirak each went 1-for-5. Arencibia's hit was an RBI double, though he also struck out twice.
A late rally saved the D-Jays in this one. Trailing 2-0 heading into the bottom of the 8th, Dunedin struck for two on four hits, including RBI singles from David Cooper and Cory Patton. An inning later, Dunedin walked off when Anthony Hatch scored on an error.
Al Quintana, Marcos Cabral, and Patton had two hits a piece. Cooper's RBI was his 9th as a D-Jay and 47th of the season. He also walked to give him a tidy 8:9 BB:K ratio in High-A.
On the mound, Randy Boone was effective over his five frames allowing two runs three hits and three walks to go with two strikeouts. Chad Blackwell picked up the win in relief with two perfect innings.
Lansing sure don't score many runs. The Lugnuts managed just five singles in this one and struck out 13 times. I don't even know who to highlight on this one. I guess I'll go with Darin Mastroianni who had a single and his 27th stolen base in 28 attempts. Oh, and he turns 23 on Tuesday so, good on you, Darin.
Mark Rzepczynski (fyi, I almost had the spelling this time; just missed the 'c') wasn't at his best on Sunday lasting just 4.2 innings and allowing three runs on nine hits. On the plus side, he struck out eight. Michael Barbara pitched 2.1 perfect innings of relief, striking out three.
Auburn lost their 8th in a row to fall to .500 on the season. Marcus Walden started and was ineffective over his three innings allowing five runs on five hits and three walks. Yorman Mayora was next and managed to be as bad, if not worse, than Walden going two innings and allowing three runs on five hits. Charles Huggins followed him and was arguably the worst of the bunch, giving up three runs in an inning and a third. Anyway, I'm sick of writing about the pitching.
At the plate, Adam Amar collected three hits and drove in a run. His average is up to .333 now. Mike McDade launched his third homer of the year, a three run shot. Leance Soto and Bartolo Nicolas also had two hits a piece.
GCL Blue Jays always have Sundays off.
