2 -for-4 for the affiliates on Sunday. Las Vegas walked off with an improbable win, and Lansing's bats channeled the big club's to ruin a fantastic start by a quickly developing prospect.
Oklahoma City 5 Las Vegas 6
The 51s trailed this one 5-0 heading into the bottom of the ninth before all hell broke loose. Las Vegas sent 10 men to the plate in the frame and scored six times on four hits, three walks, and an error. Brett Harper supplied the biggest blow with a two-run double to cut the deficit to 5-4. Travis Snider, making his first minor-league appearance of the season, made one of the two outs in the ninth and finished the game 1-for-4 with two strikeouts. J.P. Arencibia was 1-for-3 with a walk and two strikeouts.
Bad David Purcey started this one and was bound for defeat before the late heroics. Purcey finished the day with 5.1 innings and 3 runs (2 earned) on six hits and five walks. He struck out three in throwing 109 pitches. Jeremy Accardo picked up the win with a scoreless, two-strikeout ninth.
Trenton 4 New Hampshire 10
No walk-off necessary in New Hampshire as the Fisher Cats trounced the Trenton Thunder thanks to 3 three-run innings. Al Quintana and Cody Haerther each hit homers. Quintana's was part of a 4-for-4 effort. Brad Emaus continued his solid year with a 2-for-5, 3 RBI day. Emaus is now up to 300/370/482 on the year. Not wanting to be left out, Brian Dopirak went 3-for-5 to raise his season line to 313/384/571. He really is starting to look like a prospect again, even at the ripe old age of 25. David Cooper was 0-for-5.
Luis Perez evened his record at 4-4 with a solid 7.2 innings of six-hit, three-run ball. He walked two and struck out four.
Brevard County 4 Dunedin 2
The D-Jays didn't do a damn thing in this one until the bottom of the ninth but still only enough to pull within two. None of the Dunedin players stood out so I'll just highlight the important ones. Justin Jackson went 1-for-3 with a walk, and more importantly, no strikeouts. In the past ten games, Jackson has only struck out seven times which may not sound all that impressive but is, like, three times fewer than the beginning of the season.
Kevin Ahrens wasn't as lucky, going 0-for-4 with a strikeout. Everyone else: meh.
The awesomely named Vincent Bongiovanni was mediocre going 4.2 and giving up three runs on six hits. The bullpen was much more impressive, however, with Leon Boyd and Celson Polanco combining for 4.1 shutout innings.
Lansing 0 Cedar Rapids 1
Hey, the Jays line-up moved to Lo-A on Sunday! The Lugnuts were absolutely useless at the plate collecting five hits and nine strikeouts. That's it. Balbino Fuenmayor kinda deserved his per diem, going 2-for-3. The rest should give back their five bucks. Thanks to a .387 average over his last 10 games, Fuenmayor is up to 248/255/366 for the year. The atrocious OBP is thanks to a 1:27 BB:K rate.
Batter's Box prospect-du-jour Henderson Alvarez pitched brilliantly in the loss with 7 innings of 5-hit ball. He struck out four against no walks, though he did balk and hit a guy.
