Kenny Rodriguez and Zach Dials combined on a one-hitter as New Hampshire were the only bright spot on this night.  Las Vegas and Auburn each had given up double digit runs by the third inning and Dunedin and Lansing were behind early too but not by as much.  David Purcey had a bad night, Zach Stewart made his Blue Jay debut.  To take our minds off the carnage Farm Director Dick Scott answered a few  quick questions for Batters Box.

Las Vegas 1  Omaha 14

Omaha batted around in the first inning against David Purcey with two of the outs being recorded on the bases.  Purcey walked four and gave up four hits, throwing 42 pitches and giving up five runs.  Purcey got the hook but Bill Murphy gave up three more runs in the second and two in the third and Las Vegas were down 10-1 after three.  Zach Stewart made his debut and pitched a scoreless inning.  Casey Janssen also pitched a scoreless inning.  Aaron Mathews had two hits, Travis Snider, Brian Dopirak and JP Arencibia each went 1-4.

Bowie 0  New Hampshire 6

Kenny Rodriguez pitched a one hitter over seven innings and Zach Dials added two innings of no hit relief as New Hampshire one-hit Bowie.  The one hit came in the third inning.  Rodriguez had nine K's.  David Cooper got the Fisher Cats going with a two run home run in the first inning.  Darin Mastroianni singled and scored on a Brian Jeroloman single in the second.  Todd Donovan homered in the fifth and scored again as part of a two run inning in the seventh.  Donovan was 2-3 with a walk.

Clearwater 5  Dunedin 1

Ryan Page had a Rzepczynski type start, he gave up two runs through six innings on four hits but then the first four hitters of the seventh reached and Page ended with five runs allowed.  Dunedin scored their lone run in the fifth when Raul Barron was driven in by Brad McElroy.  No Dunedin hitter had more than one hit.

Lansing 4  Fort Wayne 6

Chris Holquin gave up five runs in five innings and left training 5-1.  Lansing scored two in the seventh and another in the eighth but could never catch up to Fort Wayne.  No Lugnut had more than one hit, one run scored or one RBI.

Vermont 14  Auburn 7

Vermont put up a 12 spot in the third inning.  In the third Evan Crawford got the first two outs then walked five of the next six hitters.  Austin Armstrong came on in relief and gave up a grand-slam and it was all downhill from there.  Auburn had scored two runs in the first to take the lead on run scoring hits from Wellinton Ramirez and Yan Gomes. Auburn tacked on some late runs to make it closer than it seemed.

Kyle Gilligan had three hits.  Gomes, Lance Durham, Ramirez, and Eric Eiland had two hits each.

GCL Blue Jays at GCL Yankees - postponed

Dick Scott

Dick answered three questions for Batters Box.

BB:  I know Bobby Bell has an average fastball and an above average change-up.  I see that he is being used as a starter now.  I assume that means he has developed a good third pitch to go with the other two.  What is that third pitch and is his turn as a starter a permanent move?

DS:  Bobby Bell has a curve ball to go with his FB+CH. It is actually a solid average pitch, we just need him to use it more. He will stay in the rotation for the near future.

BB:  One of the best pitchers in the GCL has been Carlos Pina.  How hard does he throw and what pitches does he have?

DS:  Pina's FB is 90-92 with good sink. He also throws a SL and CH.

BB:  Justin Jackson reportedly has had labrum surgery.  Will he be back for the start of next season?  Will it impact his play at shortstop?

DS:  Jackson's surgery was on his LEFT shoulder and he should be back ready by December. The only issue it caused was with his swing. It should be completely resolved by December
