Yesterday, braden thought maybe the affiliates would reward him for a year of great Minor League Updates with a perfect night. Unfortunately, they left him one victory short. I'm setting my sights lower: on my last minor league update, would the affiliates win one game???

Las Vegas 0 at Portland 5

Not much to tell in this game. J.P. Arencibia was the only 51 to reach base more than once, but considering that, but he did pretty much the bare minimum to qualify for that honour: he singled and walked, and struck out twice. Randy Boone wasn't very good, but the bullpen was: Bill Murphy and Zach Stewart each pitched 2 scoreless innings. It didn't matter though.

New Hampshire 4 at Portland 12

Ouch. Kenny Rodriguez got the start and, um, probably won't be reminiscing fondly about it over the off-season - he allowed 8 runs in 3 2/3. At least the offense gave us something to talk about: Darin Mastroianni singled and doubled, and after a slow start, his New Hampshire line is up to .271/.372/.340. Obviously you would like the see the power up, but considering he spent all of last year at Lansing with a .613 OPS, he's made great progress. Brad Emaus singled and walked in 3 trips and Moises Sierra had 3 singles. David Cooper took an 0-fer.

Dunedin didn't play.

Lansing 3 at South Bend 4

Oh man, so close! Oh well, next year. At least the Nuts tried their hardest! And that's all that counts, right? Anyway, Joel Carreno got the start and was better than last Monday, but still not great: 5 innings, 7 hits, 2 walks, 4 runs, 4 strike-outs. The trio of Jason Roenicke, Dustin Antolin and Jonas Cuotto held the fort admirably, allowing just a hit over their 3 innings, but the offense couldn't quite muster enough. The Great Balbino did his best, singling and scoring twice, but nobody else reached base more than once, and it's hard to win a game with an offensive output like that.

Three Stars!
3. Bill Murphy - 2 innings, 1 hit
2. Darin Mastroianni - single, double
1. Moises Sierra - 3 singles

Ouch. Weakest 3 stars of the year, I think. Seeya next year.
