It was an ugly night on the farm. Las Vegas went down early and couldn't mount any kind of comeback. New Hampshire kept it close until the fifth when the floodgates opened. Dunedin, like New Hampshire, kept it close, but couldn't win as Henderson Alvarez was a bit shaky again. Lansing took a 4-0 lead to the bottom of the ninth and lost thanks in part to two errors.
A night after losing 7-0 the 51's did one better. Marty McLeary got the start and gave up six runs in 3.1 innings. Zach Jackson gave up the other two.
The 51's only had seven hits, Brett Wallace and Jeremy Reed had two each.
Binghamton scored two runs in the second off Bobby Bell but New Hampshire fought back to take a 3-2 lead in the middle of the fifth. In the fourth Callix Crabbe doubled and Eric Thames walked. David Cooper flew out to score one run and Adam Calderone doubled to score a second. In the fifth Adam Loewen walked, Manny Mayorson singled him to third and Darin Mastroianni hit a sac fly to put the Fisher Cats ahead.
But then the tide turned. Bell gave up four runs in the bottom of the fifth, Adrian Martin gave up three in the sixth and Bubbie Buzachero gave up four in the seventh.
Calderone had three hits in the game to lead New Hampshire. In the sixth he drove in Eric Thames and in the eighth he and Jon Jaspe doubled back-to-back.
Henderson Alvarez struggled in his last start and this one was better but not great. Alvarez went 4.1 innings and gave up just two runs but allowed eight baserunners. Frank Gailey and Dumas Garcia also gave up runs in relief, three to be precise.
Dunedin got on the board in the second, Yan Gomes reached on an error and scored on a ground ball. Dunedin added two in the third, Jon Del Campo led off with a double, Raul Barron singled him home and Barron scored on a Mike McDade single. Wellinton Ramirez hit a solo home run leading off the ninth to make it a one run game but the Jays were unable to get the tying run to the plate.
McDade had three hits, Del Campo and Ramirez had two each.
Lansing 4 Fort Wayne 5 - 10 innings
Brad McElroy hit a solo home run in the first inning to put Lansing ahead. Chris Hopkins singled and scored on a single by Ryan Goins in the third to make it a 2-0 lead. Goins singled and scored on a bases loaded walk in the eighth and a Goins sac fly scored Lansings fourth run in the ninth. Lansing headed to the bottom of the ninth up 4-0. Steve Turnbull gave up three hits to make it a 4-1 game with one out. Then back-to-back errors by Schimpf and Ochinko scored two more runs and made it a one run game. A passed ball moved the lead runner to third, from where he scored on a ground ball to tie the game.
In the tenth Lansing had two on with one out but Brad Glenn was caught stealing third. In the bottom of the tenth a single, a steal and two wild pitches ended the game. Per the Lugnuts a sudden downpour made the ball hard to grip. Casey Beck took the loss.
Ryan Tepera pitched five shutout innings and gave up three hits and two walks with five K's. Dustin Antolin pitched two perfect innings and Brian Slover pitched a shutout inning.
The Luggies had 9 hits. McElroy had three hits, Hopkins and Goins two each.
