Um, to hold all the hits the affiliates racked up on Monday night (49 in total)? I'm not really sure where I was going with that one. Anyway, despite those 49 hits, the farm only went 1-3 after losing a bunch of close (and high-scoring) games.
Las Vegas 6 at Round Rock 9
Marty "Las Vegas' Dana Eveland" McLeary got the start, and, well, his nickname says it all. Marty gave up 7 runs in 3 innings and his ERA sits at 10.64. The offense did show up (as they do most nights for Las Vegas), but couldn't dig themselves out of the McLeary hole, so let's just do the run-down: Jarrett Hoffpauir homered in 5 trips, Brett Wallace singled twice, J.P. Arencibia singled, singled, doubled, and picked off a runner. Zach Jackson was good out of the bullpen, hurling three shut-out innings and allowing only two hits.
New Hampshire 7 at New Britain 8 (10 innings)
This would have been an exciting game to attend; after falling behind 6-0, the Fisher Cats came roaring back to tie the game at 6, only to see New Britain grab the lead with another run in the bottom of the 8th. New Hampshire was not to be kept down; they once again tied the game in the 9th on a double by Adam Calderone to score pinch-runner Callix Crabbe who had come in to run for Brian Jeroloman. Unfortunately, the magic ran out there, and the Rock Cats scored another run in the 10th to win. Nevertheless, this game would have had a pretty sweet WPA graph if such a thing were available for minor league games.
David Cooper reached base three times (single, double, walk) to lead the offense. Shawn Bowman smacked his 3rd homer and singled, Jeroloman singled and walked, Adam Loewen singled and doubled, and Eric Thames singled and SFed. Maestro Yanni had a rough night, going 0-5 with 2 Ks.
B.J. LaMura was the starting pitcher and wasn't that great. None of Bubbie Buzachero, Dan Farquhar or Vincent Bongiovianni were that great, either.
Dunedin 9 at Clearwater 4
Dunedin got the offense rolling right out of the gates on the classic "triple steal" - Tyler Pastornicky walked, stole second, then came all the way around to score when catcher Joel Naughton's throw must've like split the outfielders or something. The offense kept piling it on, and their output of nine runs was more than enough for Joel Carreno (6 IP, 8 base-runners, 2 ER, 8 Ks) to earn his 2nd win of the year.
Travis d'Arnaud had his best game since returning from injury, with a double and two walks. Welinton Ramirez blasted his 5th homer and added 2 singles and has been on fire recently: .290/.353/.581 over his last 10 games. John Tolisano got in on the fun as well, with a single, triple and walk. Adeiny Hechevarria went 0-4 but walked for the first time.
Great Lakes 10 at Lansing 7
Lansing actually out-hit their opponents on Monday night, but their pitchers couldn't find the strike zone, walking 10 over the course of the game, and Great Lakes took advantage of all those base-runners to come out on top 10-7. The main culprits of the aforementioned control issues were Evan Crawford and Casey Beck, who were pretty bad in 4.2 and 2.1 innings, respectively.
The offense did their best to keep their team in the game; especially Ryan Goins, who went a perfect 5-5 with a double. Brad McElroy doubled, tripled and walked, while Eric Eiland pulled a Brad McElroy Junior: he singled, doubled and walked (and stole a base), and A.J. Jimenez singled in 5 trips.
