Whew, it was not pretty. Despite the farm clubs only scoring 7 runs in 6 games, New Hampshire, Dunedin and GCL Blue Jays managed to put wins on the board.
Space out 4 hits, give up 8 hits, commit two errors and it’s a tough night for the Vegas boys as they were shut out 8 – zip. 5,168 delighted Reno fans saw Zach Kroenke 2 hit the 51s for 4 IP and Jose Marte (1-2)added 2 IP of no hit ball to get the win. Luis Perez (3-3) gave up 7 runs to suffer the loss for the evening. 51s pitching wasn’t helped with two throwing errors – 1 each from Brad Emaus (10) and Jarrett Hoffpauir (17 – Team Leader in Errors).
The lumber was lax for the 51s with only four hitters managing a single each – Manny Mayorson, Hoffpauir, JP Arencibia, and Adam Calderone. Las Vegas hitters suffered no less than 8 Ks.
Despite 7 hits, visiting Harrisburg couldn’t muster a single run. Pleased Fisher Cat fans, 7,598 in all, saw outstanding pitching – 11 IP of no run ball from starter Zach Stewart and winner Vince Bongiovanni (6-3) three the final 4 IP of no run, 3 hit baseball. Adeiny Hechavarria stole his third base of the season.
The scoring was simple to report. A solo walk off home run in the 11th inning came courtesy of DH Travis Snider (1 for 4,HR, RBI) his 5th in AAA. New Hampshire’s other hits came from Eric Thames (1 for 4, 1B), Jonathan Jaspe (1 for 4, 1B) and Jonathan Diaz (1 for 4, 1B). No less than 10 K’s plagued the Fisher Cats at the plate… all in the lineup suffered at least a K, except Thames.
Another of the night’s pitching duals went to the D-Jays in front of 406 hometown fans. Dunedin pitchers stepped up and spaced out 5 Ft. Myers hits while allowing only a single run. Winner Joel Carreno (7-5) pitched just 2 innings and gave up Ft. Myers only score. Starter Chad Beck and relievers Frank Gailey and Matt Daly turned scoreless performances in their collective 3.0 IP.
Dunedin’s scoring was provided by a multi-hit night from Ryan Goins (2 for 4, 2B, RBI) and a single from big Mike McDade (1 for 3, RBI). Two hits from Justin McClanahan (2 for 3, 2B) and a single from Welinton Ramirez (1 for 3) rounded out the batting for Dunedin.
The Luggies couldn’t manage a single run for the 2,972 Lansing fans who came out on a balmy Wednesday evening. Those who visited the mound for the Lugnuts, gave up 10 hits and 3 earned runs to Great Lakes. All of the runs were charged to losing pitcher Dave Sever (4-7). Justin Jackson suffered his 7th error (fielding) of the year at A ball.
Not much to report from the plate for Wednesday’s Lugnuts batting effort. Lansing spaced out 5 hits and were shut out by Great Lakes pitchers. Eric Eiland (2 for 2, 2BB) had the only Lansing multi-hit performance. Jackson (1 for 3), Sean Ochinko(1 for 4) and Brad Glenn (1 for 3) all added singles.
Auburn got mangled in front of 2,025 home fans, giving up 12 hits and 10 runs. Losing pitcher, Sam Strickland (1-4) had 6 runs (2 earned) charged against him in 3.2 innings pitched. Matthew Nuzzo committed his 5th error (throwing) and Gustavo Pierre gave up his 15th error (throwing) as well.
The Doubledays RBIs came from Marcus Knecht (1 for 3, RBI) and Matt Johnson (1for 4, RBI). Carlos Perez (2 for 4) added 2 singles. One single each came from Jonathan Jones (1 for 4), Jack Murphy (1 for 4) and Yeico Aponte (1 for 4).
The Baby Jays put together 11 hits and 4 runs with 2 hit pitching to best the Baby Braves. Winning Pitcher Escalante (3-1) hurled 3 IP of no run baseball. Bryson Namba was picked off 1st base and Matt Abraham had his 4th error of the year.
The Jays four runs came from RBIs by Ronald Melendez (1 for 4, 2B, RBI), Abraham (2 for 3, RBI) and extra base hitter Bryson Namba (2 for 4, 2B, 2RBIs).
