Into the Pitcher's Lane

The farm went 2-3 on Monday night and Las Vegas got an inning of relief from an unexpected source.

Nashville 12 at Las Vegas 2

Vegas got pounded on Monday night thanks to a poor outing from Lance Broadway, who allowed eight runs over five innings. The hitters weren't much better, scoring just two runs in that bandbox that is their home stadium. Just an all-round crappy game for the 51s. Brian Jeroloman had the only good day, going 1-2 with a homer and two walks. Also: Jason Lane pitched the ninth inning. He gave up a solo homer but struck out two!

New Hampshire - scheduled day off

Brevard County 2 at Dunedin 7

I spent about five minutes poring over the box score, absolutely not understanding how Brevard County scored seven runs and Dunedin only two. It didn't make sense; the D-Jays out-hit the Manatees 12-7 and out-walked them 6-2. I was so confused! But never fear, it was probably just the sleep in my eyes obscuring the little numbers.

Ryan Goins and Mark Sobolewski led the attack with a single, double and walk each. Anthony Gose singled in four trips, but also struck out and was caught stealing (for the 30th time!). Chuck Huggins was the starting pitcher and tossed a solid 6 1/3 innings, allowing two runs and K'ing five.

Lansing 3 at Great Lakes 5

The Lugnuts threw their 1-2 punch of old-timey occupations: Shopshire and Wright (Ryan and Matt). (Note: as far as I can tell, Shopshire isn't actually anything, but it definitely sounds like an old-timey job.) Shopshire was the starter and didn't pitch particularly well, allowing five runs in five innings. Maybe he should change his name to Cooper or Fletcher or Moatcontractor or something. The bullpen finished the game off without allowing any more runs, but the bats couldn't make up for the five-run outburst by Great Lakes. The Great Balbino doubled twice and singled in futility.

Auburn - cancelled

GCL Blue Jays 10 at GCL Braves 2

Oh man, an offensive explosion! The G-Jays banged out 16 hits including seven of the extra-base ilk to destroy the G-Braves. Lots of individual performances to mention: K.C. Hobson doubled twice and singled, Ronald Melendez did the same but added a walk, Chris Hawkins went 3-4 with a double and a walk, and Daniel Arcila hit a homer. Deivy Estrada had a solid outing out of the starter's role, allowing one run on five hits and striking out six.

DSL Braves 7 at DSL Jays 4

20-year-old first baseman Leo Hernandez doubled and singled twice.

Three Stars!
3. K.C. Hobson - 3-6, 2 2Bs
2. Chuck Huggins - 6 1/3, 2 ER
1. Ronald Melendez - 3-4, 2 2Bs, BB
