Beat the Beavers, Slapped by the Sea Dogs, Yanked the Yankees and Bested Batavia

Offence was the theme for winning Saturday night on the farm with Las Vegas and Auburn bats burning brightly.  And 9 K’s from Dunedin pitching helped them past the Yankees.  New Hampshire saw some good individual performances but fell short to Portland.

Las Vegas 9  Portland 1

5,631 Beaver fans saw their fuzzy team bested by a 15 hit onslaught from the 51s.  Las Vegas hurlers had a great night, allowing just a loan run on a mere 4 hits.  Starter Shawn Hill (2-2) got the well earned run with 6IP, 2H, and 4 Ks.

The 51s put up an impressive 15 hits on the evening.  Everybody in the lineup hit safely.  Mike Jacobs (2-4,HR, 4 RBIs) sparked a surge in the 6th with a 3 run homer.  He added a single as well and came in with 4 RBIs for the game.  Manny Mayorson (3-6,2B) let the hit parade for the 51s with 3.  Jonathan Diaz (2-6), Aaron Mathews (2-6, 2B, 2 RBIs) and Brad Emaus (2-4, 2B, RBI) all had a multi hit night.  Chris Lubanski (1-5), Danny Perales (1-5, RBI) and Raul Chavez (1-5,2B, RBI) each added hits as well.

 

New Hampshire 4  Portland 6

Loosing Pitcher Randy Boone (5-10), 5 IP, 8H, 5R, 1HR made the night for 6,539 Sea Dog home fans.  Faux pas in the field included a fielding error by Adeiny Hechavarria (11) and a throwing error by Adam Calderone (1).

Fishercats’ offence started with a solo home by Callix Crabbe (3-3, HR, RBI) in the first inning.  Adam Lowen (2-4, 2B, 2RBIs) doubled in David Cooper (1-3, 2B) who had led off with a 2 bagger.  In the 9th, Ricardo Narita (0-3,RBI) hit a sacrifice fly scoring Crabbe who had a lead off single.  Later Lowen singled in Shawn Bowman (0-4, R) who got on safely on a force out.  Adam Calderone (1-4) added a single.

 

Dunedin 4  Tampa 3

Steinbrenner Field in Tampa with 4,570 in attendace was the scene of a preview of the Florida State League North playoff series between the D-Jays and the Young Yankees slated for next week.  Winning pitcher for Dunedin was reliever Frank Gailey (6-4) with 2IP, 2H, 1R, 4Ks and starter Chad Beck had 5Ks in 4IP, but allowed 6 hits and a run.  Ryan Goins was tagged with a throwing error, his 9th on the year.

Scoring once in the 3rd, Dunedin got an RBI single from Yan Gomes (2-5, 2RBIs) which plated Brian VanKirk (3-4, 2B) who had doubled.  The D-Jays added 3 in the 8th with Gomes singling in VanKirk who had singled himself.  Mark Sobolewski (2-4,2B, RBI) brought in Mike McDade (2-5) who had singled.  Moises Sierra (0-3, RBI)  then hit a sac fly to score Gomes.  Kevin Ahrens(1-2) added a single.

Auburn 19  Batavia 12

1,639 Doubledays fans saw the home team thump Batavia with a whopping 13 runs in the 5 inning followed by 3 in the 6th.  Winning Pitcher Zach Anderson (3-1) only had 1IP.  Reliever Brandon Berl  gave up 6 runs on 6 hits, including a Batavia grand slam.    Starter Aaron Sanchez had a respectable outing giving up a pair of runs, but managing a nice 5Ks on the evening.  Jonathan Rodriquez had a throwing error.

Auburn offence produced  19 runs on 18 hits.  Everyone except DH Yeico Aponte hit safely.  Auburn bats were led by stars Stephen McQuail (5-6,3B, 2HR,5RBIs) and Lance Durham ((2-6, 2B, HR, 5RBIs).
