Affiliates Begin May with a Bang

The affiliates went 4-1 on the first day of May and only Lansing's result marred a potentially perfect day.

Las Vegas 9 Sacramento 3

Brett Cecil's second minor league start in 2011 was much more successful than his first. He gave up three runs in 6.2 innings. He struck out five and walked just two but gave up two homers. Danny Farquhar settled down and did not give up a run in 1.1 innings. Chris Woodward and Brett Lawrie each had three hits. Lawrie had a double and a triple, as well as three RBI. Ryan Budde was 1-for-4 with a double and two RBI. Jonathan Diaz was 0-for-2 but walked twice and scored two runs. DeWayne Wise and Scott Podsednik each had two hits. Travis Snider went 1-for-3 with a walk and a K. Adam Loewen went 0-for-4 with two Ks.

New Hampshire 5 Trenton 3


Zach Stewart recorded the win and gave up just one run in 6.0 innings. He walked two batters, gave up four hits and stuck out three. He had a stellar 13-1 ground-ball to fly-ball ratio. Mike Hinckley was roughed up for two runs in two-thirds of an inning but Alan Farina came in to record the save after 1.2 strong innings. Anthony Gose went 1-for-5 and extended his hit streak to six games. Moises Sierra had three hits and scored two runs. Diesel McDade had two hits, including a double. Catcher Jack Murphy, filling in for an injured Travis d'Arnaud, went 0-for-4 with two Ks.

Dunedin 2 Daytona 1 (Game 1 - 10 innings)

Chad Jenkins had a nice start with just one run allowed in 6.0 innings. He struck out six batters, allowed four hits and walked just one. Aaron Loup provided 3.0 innings of shutout, hitless ball. Wes Etheridge saved his six game and has not given up an earned run this season. At the plate, Brad Glenn went 2-for-4 and hit a solo homer. Justin Jackson also had two hits and a homer. Brad McElroy went 0-for-3 with two walks and two steals. Kenny Wilson is down to a .183 average after an 0-for-4 game. A.J. Jimenez was 0-for-3 with an error.

Dunedin 3 Daytona 1 (Game 2 - 7 innings)


In the second game of the double-header, the Jays received solid pitching. Ryan Shopshire allowed one run in 2.0  innings. Dumas Garcia followed up with 3.0 scoreless innings, while Frank Gailey recorded his first save after another 2.0 shutout frames. McElroy had another good game and was 2-for-3 with two doubles. Jackson and Wilson each had two hits. Jackson scored a run and had an RBI. Kevin Ahrens was 1-for-3 with an RBI and a walk. Sean Ochinko went 1-for-4 and his average is now down to .145.

Lake County 5 Lansing 3

Misaul Diaz received the start and once again struggled with his command. He gave up five runs in 4.0 innings. Sam Strickland provided 4.0 shutout innings of relief. Danny Barnes finished up the game but walk two in 1.0 inning of relief. At the plate, Jake Marisnick was 3-for-3 with a walk and stole his 10th base of the year. Carlos Perez was 2-for-4 and slammed two doubles. Bryce Namba had two hits - a double and a homer. He also drove in two runs. Michael Crouse was 1-for-3 with two steals. Gustavo Pierre went 0-for-4.
