Lugnuts Strike First

The Lugnuts earned a 6-5 decision over the Great Lake Loons in game one of their best of three series. The lead changed hands several times in an exciting game.

Lansing took a 1-0 lead in the second inning. Justin Atkinson walked with two outs. Danny Jansen singled and Gunnar Heidt delivered an RBI single.

In the third Shane Dawson walked a couple of hitters, his only walks of the night. A single and a sac fly put the Loons up 2-0.

In the fifth Heidt and Chris Carlson led off with doubles to tie the game. After a sac bunt by Richard Urena, Jason Leblebijian singled home Carlson to put the Luggies back in front 3-2.

Great Lakes tied it in the bottom of the fifth. A hit batter, a steal, a ground ball and a sac fly tied he game.

Lansing scored three in the seventh to go up 6-3. Urena and Leblebijian singled to start the inning. After a wild pitch Ryan McBroom delivered a sac fly. DJ Davis singled in the second run then David Harris doubled in the eventual winning run.

The Loons came back with solo home runs in the seventh and eighth but Jose Fernandez managed to get a 1-2-3 ninth.

Leblebijian and Heidt each were 3-5 to lead the offense.

Shane Dawson went six innings with four hits and eight punch-outs.

Games two and three are back in Lansing starting tomorrow.
