Dalton Pompey reached base four times on Sunday and stole two bases. Emilio Guerrero came off the DL hitting, he had four hits. Despite those performances all the affiliates lost.
There was discussion of the Jays assignments to start the season, they seemed very conservative. The players have been doing little to prove them wrong. Conner Greene and Sean Reid-Foley pitched on Sunday and were OK but they are not yet demonstrating they need to be promoted. Early in the season some of the stand-out offensive performers include Pompey, Jorge Flores, Richard Urena and Andrew Guillotte.
Pawtucket 7 Buffalo 4
Buffalo took a one run lead to the ninth but David Aardsma blew his first save. Aardsma was charged with four runs. Chris Leroux had started and went four innings, Leroux allowed two runs. Dustin Antolin gave up the third run before Ben Rowen and Ryan Tepera pitched perfectly.
Dalton Pompey had a good game, he had two hits, two walks and two steals. He was also gunned down once by Blake Swihart. Pompey is hitting .429. The Bisons were trailing 3-2 in the eighth before Matt Dominguez hit a two run home run. Other than Pompey, Jesus Montero is hitting .308. The rest of the team is like the parent club, lots of one's in the averages.
On Saturday the Bisons lost, Andy Burns had two hits and Domonic Brown hit a home run. On Friday the Bisons could not handle prospect Alex Meyer and lost 2-1. Chad Girodo pitched two innings and still has a zero ERA.
Trenton 9 New Hampshire 4
The Fisher Cats were never really in this game. Shane Dawson had pitched very well in his first start but that didn't carry through to start number two. Dawson was charged with four runs in 4.1 innings. He gave up six hits and four walks.
New Hampshire did have eleven hits., all but one a single. Roemen Fields, Jon Berti,Rowdy Tellez and Jorge Flores had two hits each. Flores continues to hit, he is at .400. Berti is at .333. Dwight Smith is hitting .097 and Rowdy Tellez is better but only at .207.
New Hampshire lost on Saturday, Flores had two hits and John Stilson gave up three runs in an inning. John Anderson pitched 5.2 shutout innings on Friday and New Hampshire cruised to a 7-0 win. Fields was the only hitter with two hits.
Palm Beach 7 Dunedin 6 - 10 innings
Dunedin led after seven but gave up a run in the eighth and another in the tenth to take the loss. They did load the bases with one out in the bottom of the tenth but couldn't score a run. Conner Greene made the start and was average. He lasted 4.1 innings and gave up three hits and twp walks. But he only registered one strikeout. His ERA is 3.14 but he is not dominating. Dunedin pitchers gave up 16 walks. Carlos Ramirez walked five hitters in a row before being pulled. Adonys Cardona walked the bases loaded in the next inning before he too was pulled. Cardona still sports a zero ERA but has allowed nine base runners in 4.2 innings. But at this stage just pitching is an achievement for Cardona.
Emilio Guerrero spent most of 2015 in AA but started the season on the DL. He was activated on sunday and assigned to Dunedin. He went 4-4 with a walk and added two RBI. Richard Urena had two more hits and is hitting .341. Ryan McBroom is hitting .277. Derrick Loveless hit a home run and drove in three.
Dunedin walked it off in the thirteenth inning on Saturday. Urena had three hits. Alonzo Gonzalez and Chris Rowley combined for seven innings of shutout relief. Rowley still has a zero ERA with four hits and no walks in seven innings. He has four K's. Dunedin also walked it off on Friday, in ten innings this time. Urena and Davis Harris had two hits. Harris had three RBI. Juliandry Higuera started and did well. Tom Robson relieved him but was again hit around for four runs in 1.2 innings.
Lansing 2 Bowling Green 5
Lansing had just five hits and only two after the third inning. Their two runs came in the fourth with singles by Josh Almonte, JC Cardenas and Andrew Guillotte. Guillotte is leading the offense with a .429 average. Juan Kelly is averaging .348 and Ryan Hissey .313.
The starter was Sean Reid-Foley. Like Greene he was average. He went 4.2 inning and was charged with two earned runs. The hitters had four hits and four walks. SRF did have four K's. SRF has a 1.69 ERA but he has walked eight in 10.2 innings.
On Saturday Lansing scored three runs in the ninth in a two run win. Angel Perdomo went 4.2 innings and gave up two runs. Guillotte had two hits, two walks and three RBI. Lansing won easily on Friday. Kelly led the offense with two doubles. Francisco Rios had nine punchouts in 4.2 innings.
