Three losses on Wednesday on the farm. Buffalo did have a lead but the bullpen gave it away. Andy Burns and Jon Berti homered. New Hampshire went down early and made it close with Shane Opitz delivering the big hit but close was not good enough. Lansing lost by a lot. Dunedin were rained out.
Scranton 6 Buffalo 4
There was lots of base runners in this game. Scranton scored a single run in six of the nine innings. Buffalo scored in three of their innings so half of the half innings saw a run scored. The Bisons were in the lead after six innings but Scranton scored runs in the seventh, eighth and ninth. Arnold Leon started and gave up seven hits in three innings. He just allowed two runs. Chris Leroux followed and went five, he allowed three runs on just four hits but the three runners who scored got an base through a hit batter and two walks. Ben Rowen didn't want to stick out so he gave up a run on three hits in the ninth.
Andy Burns was the early offense. He walked and scored on a single from Jesus Montero in the third and then hit a two run home run in the fifth. Jon Berti added a solo home run in the sixth. Berti and Alexi Casilla had two hits each.
Reading 4 New Hampshire 3
Reading jumped out to a 4-0 lead after three innings. Jason Berken was the starter and all four runs were earned. Berken has a five and a half ERA. Berken pitched six innings, Brady Dragmire the seventh and Danny Barnes the last two. Dragmire and Barnes didn't allow a hit.
New Hampshire scored all their runs in the fifth. The Fisher Cats loaded the bases, Wilkin Castillo and Jorge Flores singled and Roemen Fields walked. Shane Opitz then doubled to clear the bases. But that was it for New Hampshire. Castillo and Flores had two hits each, Opitz's hit was the only other one.
Dunedin at Brevard County - postponed, rain
Cedar Rapids 8 Lansing 2 - 8 innings
This game was shortened due to rain. Ryan Cook started and struggled somewhat, he was charged with five runs in 2.2 innings. Cook now has a 6.29 ERA and doesn't fit in with the rest of the starters. When Sean Reid-Foley comes off the DL, Cook could find himself out of a job. Starlyn Suriel followed and he allowed three runs in the fifth, only one of which was earned. Cedar Rapids had ten hits and five walks in eight innings.
Gunnar Heidt walked to lead off the fourth and scored when Connor Panas singled. In the sixth Ryan Hissey singled, Carl Wise doubled and Hissey scored on a ground out. Wise, Panas and Justin Atkinson each had two hits. Gustavo Pierre pitched two innings with one hit allowed.
