McKinney Among Kids In The Hall Making His Mark

The #BlueJays affiliates won three and lost three with one ending on a cliffhanger Monday. New Hampshire had the night off.

Buffalo 8 Charlotte 7

Billy McKinney took care of the hard part of the cycle with a home run and a triple and added a walk. His seventh inning blast turned out of the difference in this one. Jonathan Davis, Reese McGuire and Tim Lopes also had two hits in this one. Dwight Smith Jr. singled and walked while Anthony Alford singled and stole a base.

Jacob Waguespack was whacked for five runs over five innings but he got the win. He surrendered a home run among his four hits and had a strikeout/walk ratio of 3-3. Conor Fisk coughed up two more runs over two innings before Justin Shafer overcame a hit and a walk and struck out one over two scoreless frames to get the save.


Jupiter 5 Dunedin 4

The D-Jays had a 4-1 lead after five innings before this one got away from them. Zach Logue was in line for the win after allowing just two runs on five hits, a walk and a plunk while ringing up 10. Ty Tice blew the save and took the loss by getting torched for three runs in 1-1/3 innings. Nick Hartman had a shutout inning and Jake Fishman pitched two-thirds of a shutout frame.

Ivan Castillo was 2-for-3 with a walk and two RBI while Kacy Clemens had the other base knock. Josh Palacios reached twice on base on balls. Riley Adams walked and took one for the team. Kevin Smith, Brock Lundquist and Rodrigo Orozco heard ball four once.


Bowling Green 12 Lansing 6

Matt Gunter was gashed for eight runs (five earned) over 3-2/3 innings on seven hits, a walk and two hit by pitches. Orlando Pascual was punked for two home runs and four in total in just one inning. Dalton Rodriguez pitched 3-1/3 shutout innings of one-hit, one-walk ball with four strikeouts. Brayden Bouchey walked one in a shutout ninth.

Brandon Grudzielanek was 3-for-3 with a double and two RBI and Chavez Young was 3-for-5 with a double and two driven in. Vinny Capra, Norberto Obeso and Ryan Gold all had two hits apiece.


Vancouver 3 Salem-Keizer 1 (10 Innings)

Josh Winckowski made a strong bid to repeat as the Northwest League's Pitcher of the Week. He scattered five hits and a walk and struck out nine over 6-1/3 shutout innings. Five of his seven outs in play were on the ground. Justin Watts stranded two runners and walked just one batter while whiffing three over 2-1/3 innings. Will McAffer recorded the final four outs and got the win despite giving up a run and loading the bases on a couple of occasions in the 10th.

Vancouver scored three unearned runs in the 10th, including one on a McGregory Contreras base hit. Christopher Bec had two of the six hits. You can read more about the game right here.


Bluefield 9 Kingsport 7

An RBI single by Rafael Lantigua drove in the eventual winning run in the ninth for the Bluef-Jays. Hagen Danner had three hits and a walk and Alejandro Kirk had two hits and a free pass. Cal Stevenson contributed the other two-hit effort.

Claudio Galva was charged for four runs over five innings thanks to two home run balls among six hits and two walks. He struck out five and collected six groundball outs to get the win. Grant Townsend gave up two runs over two-thirds of an inning before Nicolas Medina pitched 1-1/3 shutout frames. Andy McGuire gave up a run in his 1-1/3 inning stint before Brad Wilson wrapped up it up with a two-out save.


GCL Yankees 6 GCL Blue Jays 4

The Jays led 2-0 after five but the Yankees fought back with two in the sixth and four in the seventh for the win. Addison Barger doubled twice and homered in a 3-for-4 day at the plate. Steward Berroa singled and walked three times. Miguel Hiraldo singled and walked in his GCL debut. Jordan Groshans was 1-for-5 with an RBI.

Shawn Morimando shutout the Yankees on two hits and a walk over three innings thanks to six strikeouts. Francisco Rios put up a zero in the fourth before Emanuel Vizcaino was dummied for all six runs in 2-2/3 innings. Meliton Reyes struck out two over 1-1/3 scoreless innings and Gage Burland rung up two in a shutout ninth.


DSL Blue Jays 8 DSL Reds 7 (Suspended - 11 Innings)

The Blue Jays took the lead in the 11th on an RBI single by Gustavo Ruiz but they will have to wiggle out of second-and-third jam with one out when this game resumes. Hanley Acevedo homered in this one and scored the go-ahead run in the 11th. Erickvi Celedonio and Rainer Nunez were 2-for-5 with Celedonio doubling and knocking in two runs.

Ronald Govea went five innings and gave up just two runs (one earned) over five innings on five hits and two walks while striking out three. Junior Guzman was jolted for four runs in 3-2/3 innings and Jhoan Dominguez was dinged for an unearned marker over 1-1/3. Jose Brito got the first out of the 11th.
