Can't Comp A Win For Cumpton

The #BlueJays affiliates won five of nine Tuesday. The GCL and DSL squads split their doubleheaders while Buffalo's game ended on a cliffhanger.

Scranton/Wilkes-Barre 1 Buffalo 1 (Suspended Bottom 9th)

Vladimir Guerrero Jr. doubled home a Dwight Smith Jr. to tie the game in the eighth. Gunnar Heidt began the ninth with a base hit and got to second on a wild pitch before the game was called. Guerrero was 3-for-4 and Heidt had two hits.

Brandon Cumpton lasted eight innings and provided one-run ball on three hits and a walk with three strikeouts. Taylor Guerreri punched out two batters in a scoreless ninth.

Portland 3 New Hampshire 2

A two-run double by Cavan Biggio opened the scoring in the fifth but Portland would walk it off as Biggio's throwing error on a sacrifice bunt allowed the winning run to score from second. Biggio and Max Pentecost had two-hit efforts with Biggio stealing a base. Bo Bichette was 0-for-4.

T.J. Zeuch put together five shutout innings with just two hits and two walks on his pitching line. He struck out five and had six groundouts. Corey Copping coughed up a two-run homer in the sixth and needed help from Jackson McClelland stranded the bases loaded in the seventh. McClelland struck out three over 1-1/3 innings. Zach Jackson gave up an unearned run without retiring anybody for the loss.

Dunedin 5 Clearwater 1

The D-Jays used back-to-back-to-back doubles from Riley Adams, Brock Lundquist and Rodrigo Orozco plated four runs in the second with Adams driving in two. Yeltsin Gudino added a sacrifice fly in the fourth. Orozco had three hits and Adams had a pair.

Connor Eller shutout the Threshers by scattering two hits and three walks while whiffing six over five innings. Angel Perdomo allowed two runs over 2-2/3 innings. Jake Fishman stranded two runners and got the final four outs to reel in the save.

Bowling Green 7 Lansing 3

Vinny Capra had the lone hit for the Lugnuts and drew a walk out of the leadoff spot. Samad Taylor, Chavez Young and Norberto Obeso heard ball four once.

Graham Spraker suffered the loss, giving up five runs (three earned) over five innings. He allowed seven hits and a walk but struck out five. Andrew Deramo was dinged for two runs over two innings. Dalton Rodriguez put up a zero in the eighth.

Vancouver 5 Tri-City 2

The C's finally won in Pasco for the first time in 2018. A Tanner Kirwer RBI triple, a Christopher Bec RBI single and a balk led to three runs in the first before Brett Wright belted his fifth homer of the season in the ninth. Lopez had three hits while Kirwer and Brandon Polizzi had two apiece.

Sean Wymer gave up a run over three innings and Joey Murray was nicked for one over two frames. Justin Watts pitched two perfect frames with three strikeouts for the win. Marcus Reyes got a hold with a scoreless eighth and Orlando Pascual worked a one-hit ninth for the save. More details can be found right here.

Bluefield 7 Danville 5

A D.J. Neal sacrifice fly and a Rafael Lantigua RBI base hit helped Bluefield take an early 2-0 lead. Alejandro Kirk supplied four hits and four RBI to help put the game away. Luis De Los Santos and Patrick Morris contributed two hits apiece. Cal Stevenson had a hit and two walks.

Felipe Castenada yielded two runs over four frames but struck out four. Jackson Rees gave up a run in 1-2/3 innings. Grant Townsend got the win with two runners stranded in and 1-1/3 shutout frames. Brad Wilson was whacked for two runs over two innings.

GCL Yankees East 8 GCL Blue Jays 7

After completing a 5-4 victory over the Yankees from 10 days ago, the Jays surrendered a 3-0 lead and a 7-6 advantage before being walked off. Elixon Caballero pitched two scoreless frames and Alvery De Los Santos put up a bagel in the third. Kelyn Jose, Williams Moreno, Alexander Molina and Franniel Polanco all gave up runs with Polanco taking the loss.

Jose Rivas had a 4-for-5 at the plate with a triple and Miguel Hiraldo had three hits in six at-bats. Adrian Ramos homered, singled and drove in two while Jose Abel Hernandez doubled twice and brought home three.

DSL Padres 6 DSL Blue Jays 3 (Game 1)

The Padres scored four times in the sixth to overcome a 3-1 deficit.  Adrian Hernandez allowed a run on three hits and two walks while punching out five over four innings. Sergio Leon struck out three but gave up three runs in 1-1/3 innings for the loss.

Anthony Rodriguez and Pedro Ventura had two hits apiece at the bottom of the order and drove in a run. Rodriguez had a pair of doubles. Erickvi Celedonio singled, walked and knocked home a run.

DSL Blue Jays 2 DSL Padres 1 (Game 2 - 7 Innings)

The Jays wiped out a one-run disadvantage by scoring twice in the fifth to earn a doubleheader split. The number eight and nine hitters did the damage again as Gustavo Ruiz doubled, walked and drove in a run. Hanley Acevedo had a triple and an RBI. Number seven hitter Pedro Ventura had the other knock.

Santos Moreno surrendered a run on two hits and a walk and struck out three over three frames. Christian Reyes was the winner by offsetting two walks with four strikeouts over two shutout innings. Pedro Guzman permitted just one walk and struck out two over two more shutout innings for the save.
