Eight Spring Games To Go

This is the last full week of spring training. The Jays play through Monday of next week, before travelling to New York for an April fool start to the season.

Four of the last eight games are night games to get the players used to night games. Three of those games are in Dunedin where the plyers have to get used to the upgraded lights in the new stadium. Tonight's game is a 6.37pm start and is available on Sportsnet.

The likely starters should see most of the action this week. Roster decisions might come later this week or early next week. Twenty Five players were dispatched last week but the tougher decisions remain, mostly at catcher and in the bullpen. Some of the pitching decisions have become easier over the last few days with Kirby Yates joining Nate Pearson on the IL to start the season.

I just looked at the early schedule. The Jays play the Yankees on April 1st, and then have the 2nd off as a rain date in case the home opener is rained out. The Jays then play 16 straight days which is quite unusual for the start of the season. That could persuade the Jays to take an extra reliever on the opening day roster. It could also mean the Buffalo shuttle will get an early season workout.
